Power management for a remote antenna unit(s) (RAUs) in a distributed antenna system. Power can be managed for an RAU configured to power modules and devices that may require more power to operate than power available to the RAU. For example, the RAU may be configured to include power-consuming RAU modules to provide distributed antenna system-related services. As another example, the RAU may be configured to provide power through powered ports in the RAU to external power-consuming devices. Depending on the configuration of the RAU, the power-consuming RAU modules and/or external power-consuming devices may demand more power than is available at the RAU. In this instance, the power available at the RAU can be distributed to the power-consuming modules and devices based on the priority of services desired to be provided by the RAU.

Power management for remote antenna units in distributed antenna systems

A multi-band antenna adapted to a portable electrical device capable of operating in various wireless communication bands includes a first radiating conductor having opposite elongated sides, a second radiating conductor extending from one end of the first radiating conductor, a third radiating conductor arranging about a central area of the first radiating. Both the second radiating conductor and the third radiating conductor extend from the same elongated side of the first radiating conductor. A feeding body is curved and extended from the third radiating conductor. According to a position that the feeding body connecting to the third radiating conductor and designed the feeding body, operation of the multi-band antenna has a preferred range of a low frequency bandwidth and a high frequency harmonic bandwidth.

Multi-band antenna

A chassis-excited antenna apparatus, and methods of tuning and utilizing the same. In one embodiment, a distributed loop antenna configuration is used within a handheld mobile device (e.g., cellular telephone). The antenna comprises two radiating elements: one configured to operate in a high-frequency band, and the other in a low-frequency band. The two antenna elements are disposed on different side surfaces of the metal chassis of the portable device; e.g., on the opposing sides of the device enclosure. Each antenna component comprises a radiator and an insulating cover. The radiator is coupled to a device feed via a feed conductor and a ground point. A portion of the feed conductor is disposed with the radiator to facilitate forming of the coupled loop resonator structure.

Chassis-excited antenna apparatus and methods

An adjustable multi-band planar antenna especially applicable in mobile terminals. In one embodiment, the feed of the antenna is connected by a multiple-way switch to at least two alternative points of the radiator element. When the feed point is changed, the resonance frequencies and thus the operating bands of the antenna change. In addition to varying the basic dimensions of the antenna, the distance between one feed point to another and a possible short-circuit point in the radiator, the value of the series capacitance produced by a reactive circuit that is formed between the feed point and switch, and the distance between the ground plane and the radiator, are parameters that may affect the antenna design.

Adjustable multi-band antenna and methods

An antenna component (and antenna) with a dielectric substrate and a plurality of radiating antenna elements on the surface of the substrate. In one embodiment, the plurality comprises two (2) elements, each of them covering one of the opposite heads and part of the upper surface of the device. The upper surface between the elements comprises a slot. The lower edge of one of the antenna elements is galvanically coupled to the antenna feed conductor on a circuit board, and at another point to the ground plane, while the lower edge of the opposite antenna element, or the parasitic element, is galvanically coupled only to the ground plane. The parasitic element obtains its feed through the electromagnetic coupling over the slot, and both elements resonate at the operating frequency. Omni-directionality is also achieved. Losses associated with the substrate are low due to the simple field image in the substrate.

Antenna, component and methods

The invention relates to an internal monopole antenna of especially a flat a radio device, which monopole antenna has an arrangement for improving its characteristics. The antenna comprises a planar monopole radiator (310) and an auxiliary element (320), which is located at the point of the planar element as viewed in the direction of its normal. The auxiliary element can be a mere conductor strip or a ceramic plate partly coated with a conductor. The conductor of the auxiliary element is connected to the ground at a point (SP), which is relatively close to the feed point (FP) of the planar element. The planar element (310) can be shaped to form two operating bands for the antenna. The auxiliary element can be used to increase the bandwidth of the internal monopole antenna and/or to improve the omnidirectional radiation of the antenna.

Internal monopole antenna

An internal antenna especially aimed at flat radio devices. The antenna (200) comprises a planar radiator (220) with a branch (221) for forming a lower operating band for the antenna and a second branch (222) for forming an upper operating band. The branches typically form a frame-like pattern. There remains a slot (230) between the branches, opening to the outer edge of the radiator approximately in the middle of the edge running in the direction of the end of the circuit board (205) and being outside the circuit board as seen from above. The omnidirectional radiation of the antenna on its upper operating band improves as compared to the corresponding, known antennas, and its efficiency improves, because the average antenna gain increases.

Internal antenna and methods

A distributed multiband antenna intended for radio devices, and methods for designing manufacturing the same. In one embodiment, a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) configured to operate in a high-frequency band, and a matched monopole configured to operate in a low-frequency band, are used within a handheld mobile device (e.g., cellular telephone). The two antennas are placed on substantially opposing regions of the portable device. The use of a separate low-frequency antenna element facilitates frequency-specific antenna matching, and therefore improves the overall performance of the multiband antenna. The use of high-band PIFA reduces antenna volume, and enables a smaller device housing structure while also reducing signal losses in the high frequency band. These attributes also advantageously facilitate compliance with specific absorption rate (SAR) tests; e.g., in the immediate proximity of hand and head “phantoms” as mandated under CTIA regulations. Matching of the low-frequency band monopole antenna is further described.

Distributed multiband antenna and methods

A space efficient multi-feed antenna apparatus, and methods for use in a radio frequency communications device. In one embodiment, the antenna assembly comprises three (3) separate radiator structures disposed on a common antenna carrier. Each of the three antenna radiators is connected to separate feed ports of a radio frequency front end. In one variant, the first and the third radiators comprise quarter-wavelength planar inverted-L antennas (PILA), while the second radiator comprises a half-wavelength grounded loop-type antenna disposed in between the first and the third radiators. The PILA radiators are characterized by radiation patterns having maximum radiation axes that are substantially perpendicular to the antenna plane. The loop radiator is characterized by radiation pattern having axis of maximum radiation that is parallel to the antenna plane. The above configuration of radiating patterns advantageously isolates the first radiator structure from the third radiator structure in at least one frequency band.

Multi-feed antenna apparatus and methods

An active diversity antenna apparatus and methods of tuning and utilizing the same. In one embodiment, the active diversity antenna is used within a handheld mobile device (e.g., cellular telephone or smartphone), and enables device operation in several low frequency bands (LBs). The exemplary implementation of the active LB diversity antenna comprises a directly fed radiator portion and a grounded (coupled fed) radiator portion. The directly fed portion is fed via a feed element connected to an antenna feed. The coupled fed portion of the LB antenna is grounded, forming a resonating part of the low frequency band. A gap between the two antenna portions is used to adjust antenna Q-value. Resonant frequency tuning is achieved by changing the length of the grounded element. The LB feed element is disposed proximate the feed element of a high band diversity antenna, thus reducing transmission losses and improving diplexer operation.
