Journal ArticleDOI
Geographic variation in responses of kelp forest communities of the California Current to recent climatic changes.
Rodrigo Beas-Luna,Fiorenza Micheli,C. Brock Woodson,Mark H. Carr,Dan Malone,Jorge Torre,C. A. Boch,C. A. Boch,Jennifer E. Caselle,Matthew S. Edwards,Jan Freiwald,Scott L. Hamilton,Arturo Hernandez,Brenda Konar,Kristy J. Kroeker,Julio Lorda,Gabriela Montaño-Moctezuma,Guillermo Torres-Moye +17 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that coastal communities that are dependent on kelp forests will be more impacted in the southern portion of the California Current region, highlighting the urgency of implementing adaptive strategies to sustain livelihoods and ensure food security.
Journal ArticleDOI
Harnessing marine microclimates for climate change adaptation and marine conservation
C. Brock Woodson,Fiorenza Micheli,Charles A. Boch,Maha Al‐Najjar,Antonio Espinoza,Arturo Hernandez,Leonardo Vazquez-Vera,Andrea Sáenz-Arroyo,Stephen G. Monismith,Jorge Torre +9 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Do marine reserves increase prey for California sea lions and Pacific harbor seals
Alejandro Arias-Del-Razo,Yolanda Schramm,Gisela Heckel,Andrea Sáenz-Arroyo,Arturo Hernandez,Leonardo Vazquez,Aldo Isaac Carrillo-Muñoz +6 more
TL;DR: Underwater surveys around four islands in the Pacific west of the Baja California Peninsula indicate that marine reserves increase overall fish diversity and biomass, despite the presence of top predators, even increasing the numbers of their potential prey.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of kelp forest biomass on nearshore currents
Stephen G. Monismith,M. Alnajjar,C. Brock Woodson,Charles A. Boch,Arturo Hernandez,Leonardo Vazquez-Vera,Tom W. Bell,Fiorenza Micheli +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a 2-1/2 year study of flows at two sites within the island's kelp forests was conducted, at one site (Punta Prieta), currents are tidal, whereas at the other site (Morro).
