The effect of Kevlar fibre surface modification and fibre hybridization on fibre metal laminates (FMLs) was investigated in this paper. Fibre metal laminates are interlaced layers of thin metals and fibre-reinforced plastics that constitute a hybrid composite material. The flexural strength of hybrid fibre metal composites was investigated from the three-point bending test at various hybrid ratios of sequence layers in FML composites. The Glass fibre, Kevlar fibre, and aluminum were taken for laminating the composite and reinforced with epoxy matrix. The adhesion property of fibre metal composites was enhanced by a modified aluminum surface treated with Sulpho ferric etching, and Kevlar surface is treated with epichlorohydrin pre-treatment. The flexural modulus and strain to failure results have been shown for various hybrid combinations, which affect the fibre metal composite and improved the interlaminar strength of GARALL composites.

Abstract Manufacturers often employ the extrusion process to form an object with any cross-section. An experiment was carried out to examine the effect of die angle on the quality of the extruded product. The four types of extrusion dies were designed for finding the desirable quality of aluminium composite extruded billet. The five percentages of the Silicon carbide have been chosen as reinforcement with aluminium alloys. Further, the various extrusion dies configurations were considered as 12:8, 12:2, 12:4, and 8:4 for producing the extruded billets. In addition, the die angles that correspond to the required minimum extrusion load were determined. According to the findings, 12:8 extrusion configurations with a 30° die angle produced the desired quality billet and fine grain structure of extruded product with reduced extrusion load. The extruded billet surface quality was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy.

Superplastic behaviour of Mg-alloy AZ31 was investigated to clarify the possibility of its use for superplastic forming (SPF) and to accurately evaluate material characteristics under a biaxial stress by utilizing a multi-dome test. The material characteristics were evaluated under three different superplastic temperatures, 643, 673, and 703 K in order to determine the most suitable superplastic temperature. Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation of rectangular pan forming was carried out to predict the formability of the material into a complex shape. The superplastic material properties are used for the simulation of a rectangular pan. Finally, the simulation results are compared with the experimental results to determine the accuracy of the superplastic material characteristics. The experimental results revealed that the m values are greater than 0.3 under the three superplastic temperatures, which is indicative of superplasticity. The optimum superplastic temperature is 673 K, at which a maximum m value and no grain growth were observed. The results of the FEM simulation revealed that certain localized thinning occurred at the die entrance of the deformed rectangular pan due to the insufficient ductility of the material. The simulation results also showed that the optimum superplastic temperature of AZ31 is 673 K.

Superplastic forming of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet into a rectangular pan : Superplasticity and its applications

Gas pressure forming tests were conducted on various percentages of SiCp composites. The biaxial superplastic forming tests were conducted at various temperatures between 520°C to 600°C and pressures between 0.2 MPa to 0.7 MPa. At the temperature of 600°C and 0.7 MPa the cracks were formed and the components were deformed.

Experimental investigation on superplastic forming behavior of AA 6063/SiCp using stir casting

Extrusion is the important manufacturing process and many components have been manufactured. Extrusion load play the major role for that the selection of die angle. A pilot study has been conducted for selecting a suitable die design for the present work. The selection of the semidie angle has been determined for the die of inlet diameter 12 mm and outlet diameter 8 mm. Hot die steel (H-13) is used as the die material for this study.

Optimizations of extrusion semidie angle and fabrication of extrusion die

Diffusion bonding is one of the metal joining process to join same and well as dissimilar metals. In this project stainless steel and copper plates were joined together with the interlayer of cupronickel sheet. The temperature was maintained in the range of 800 - 850°C. At the same time of heating compression load also acting on the specimensupto 5 MPa. To prevent the oxidation process vacuum of 10-4 Torr was maintained. The experiment was conducted for 60 Min. distinct diffusion zones were formed in the joined area of the specimens. The experiments were conducted with different temperatures and pressure. The shear strength of the specimens was tested and at 825°C have maximum shear strength of 8.47KN.
