Influence of the phosphoric acid-doping level in a polybenzimidazole membrane on the cell performance of high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells

TL;DR: In this paper, the acid migration in polybenzimidazole (PBI) membrane high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFC) during operation is experimentally evaluated to clarify the influence of the acid balance between the membrane and electrodes on cell performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of operating temperature on cell performance and endurance of high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells

TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC) operation temperature and cell durability was investigated in terms of the deterioration mechanism, and the reduction in cell voltage of approximately 20 mV during the long-term tests was considered to be caused both by aggregation of the electrode catalyst particles in the early stage of power generation, in addition to the effects of crossover due to depletion of phosphoric acid in the terminal stage, which occurs regardless of cell temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term cell degradation mechanism in high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the mechanism underlying the decline in cell voltage over time for high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells and found that growth of Pt catalyst particles occurred during operation, in addition to oxidation of the carbon support.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prolongation of lifetime of high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of using a different kind of cell membrane were investigated, instead of PBI membranes, phosphoric-acid-doped, chemically cross-linked poly(2,5-benzimidazole) (ABPBI) membranes were employed in HT-PEMFCs and long-term power generation tests were carried out.
