A method of producing a roll of an optical film laminate strip including a polarizing film includes the steps of: forming a continuous web of optical film laminate including a polarizing film which consists of a polyvinyl alcohol type resin layer and has a thickness of 10 μm or less, wherein the polarizing film is formed by performing an stretching sub-step of subjecting a laminate comprising a continuous web of thermoplastic resin substrate and a polyvinyl alcohol type resin layer formed on the substrate, to a uniaxial stretching in a lengthwise direction of the laminate based on 2-stage stretching consisting of preliminary in-air stretching and in-boric-acid-solution stretching; cutting the continuous web of optical film laminate along a direction parallel to the length direction to form at least one continuous web of laminate strip having a given width; and winding the continuous web of laminate strip having the given width into a roll.

Disclosed is durable polarizing plate which has a polarizing element layer which can provide a display having a good contrast ratio in a liquid crystal display device. Also provided is a method for manufacturing the polarizing plate which includes the following steps: a first step in which a polarizing plate is left to stand for 750 hours in an environment at 85°C, and a second step in which the polarizing plate is left to stand for 48 hours in an environment at room temperature immediately after the first step. The polarizing plate which is produced has ΔX and ΔY which satisfy ΔY/ΔX ≥ 0.7, when an evaluation test is carried out in which the orthogonal a value of the Hunter-Lab color system immediately before the first step starts, immediately after the first step ends, and immediately after the second step ends, is taken as a1, a2, and a3, respectively, where the difference between a2 and a1 is ΔX and the difference between a2 and a3 is ΔY; and these values are acquired in relation to the polarizing element layer. Also provided is a liquid crystal display device which employs the polarizing plate.

This optical film with adhesive on both sides comprises: an optical film, further comprising a polarizing sheet; a first adhesive layer which is disposed on a face of the optical film which is a side which is pasted upon an image display cell; and a second adhesive layer which is disposed on a face of the optical film which is a side which is pasted upon a transparent plate or a touch panel. The first adhesive layer and the second adhesive layer respectively have detachable protective sheets adhered thereupon. It would be desirable for the second adhesive layer to have a thickness of 30µm or more. This optical film with adhesive on both sides would be usable, as an example, positioned between the transparent plate or the touch panel and the image display cell.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate having high adhesion between a polarizing film and a protective film therefor, high durability in a severe environment and high productivity, the polarizing plate using a polyethylene terephthalate film as a protective film, and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the polarizing plate. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate includes a polarizing film made of a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin and a stretched polyethylene terephthalate film laminated on one surface of the polarizing film via a first adhesive layer. The stretched polyethylene terephthalate film has a coating layer formed of a resin composition containing 40 wt.% or more of an urethane resin on the surface of the stretched polyethylene terephthalate film to be adhered to the polarizing film. The first adhesive layer is made of a cured material layer of an active energy ray-curable resin composition containing an epoxy compound. A method of manufacturing a polarizing plate according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: stretching and dyeing a laminate having a resin substrate and a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin layer formed on at least one side of the resin substrate to produce a polarizing film on the resin substrate; laminating an optically functional film on the laminate on a polarizing film side to produce an optically functional film laminate; and peeling the resin substrate from the optically functional film laminate. The peeling is performed so that an angle α formed between a surface of the optically functional film laminate immediately before the peeling and a peeling direction of the resin substrate is smaller than an angle β formed between the surface of the optically functional film laminate immediately before the peeling and a peeling direction of the polarizing film.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polarizing plate which is capable of uniformly pressurizing a laminate (a polarizing film and a transparent film) constituting a polarizing plate even if using sticking rolls of which the diameter is relatively smaller, and an apparatus for manufacturing a polarizing plate.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a polarizing plate includes: an adhesive coating process for applying an active energy ray curable adhesive to one surface of a transparent film or to one surface or both surfaces of a polarizing film; a sticking process for sticking the transparent film and the polarizing film by pressing at least one of a pair of sticking rolls toward a direction of the other sticking roll by using at least one pressing roll provided in contact with the sticking rolls in a state where a laminate formed by laminating the transparent film on one surface or both surfaces of the polarizing film via the adhesive is interposed between the pair of sticking rolls rotating in a conveyance direction; and an active energy ray irradiation process for curing the adhesive by irradiating the laminate with the active energy ray. A diameter of the center part of the pressing roll is larger than a diameter of the center part of the sticking rolls in contact with the pressing roll.
