Neuroestrogens rapidly regulate sexual motivation but not performance.
Aurore L. Seredynski,Jacques Balthazart,Virginie Christophe,Gregory F. Ball,Charlotte Cornil +4 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the central administration of estradiol rapidly increases the expression of sexual motivation, as assessed by several measures ofSexual motivation produced in response to the visual presentation of a female but not sexual performance in male Japanese quail.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estrogen receptor β activation rapidly modulates male sexual motivation through the transactivation of metabotropic glutamate receptor 1a
TL;DR: Using acute intracerebroventricular injections of specific agonists and antagonists following blockade of brain aromatase, it is shown that brain-derived estrogens acutely facilitate male sexual motivation through the activation of estrogen receptor β interacting with the metabotropic glutamate receptor 1a.
Journal ArticleDOI
A bit of quiet between the migrations: the resting life of the European eel during their freshwater growth phase in a small stream
TL;DR: Eels showed home ranges ranging from 33 to 341 m, displayed strong fidelity to sites and demonstrated a great degree of plasticity in habitat use, and Stones and roots were significantly the most frequently used habitats.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid Control of Reproductive Behaviour by Locally Synthesised Oestrogens: Focus on Aromatase
Charlotte Cornil,Aurore L. Seredynski,C. de Bournonville,Molly J. Dickens,Thierry Charlier,Gregory F. Ball,Jacques Balthazart +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a synthesis of recent work carried out in our laboratory that aimed to address these issues in the context of the study of male sexual behaviour in Japanese quail, which is a considered as a suitable species for tackling these issues.
Journal ArticleDOI
Specific activation of estrogen receptor alpha and beta enhances male sexual behavior and neuroplasticity in male japanese quail
TL;DR: Two subtypes of estrogen receptors (ER), ERα and ERβ, have been identified in humans and numerous vertebrates, including the Japanese quail, and the specific role(s) of each receptor is investigated in this species.
