Examines the motivation for achievement as a psychological factor that shapes economic development. Refuting arguments based on race, climate, or population growth, the book instead argues for cultural customs and motivations - especially the motivation for achievement - as the major catalysts of economic growth. Considering the Protestant Reformation, the rise of capitalism, parents' influences on sons, and folklore and children's stories as shaping cultural motivations for achievement, the book hypothesizes that a high level of achievement motivation precedes economic growth. This is supported through qualitative analysis of the achievement motive, as well as of other psychological factors - including entrepreneurial behavior and characteristics, and available sources of achievement in past and present highly achieving societies. It is the achievement motive - and not merely the profit motive or the desire for material gain - that has advanced societies economically. Consequently, individuals are not merely products of their environment, as many social scientists have asserted, but also creators of the environment, as they manipulate it in various ways in the search for achievement. Finally, a plan is hypothesized to accelerate economic growth in developing countries, by encouraging and supplementing their achievement motives through mobilizing the greater achievement resources of developed countries. The conclusion is not just that motivations shape economic progress, but that current influences on future people's motivations and values will determine economic growth in the long run. Thus, it is most beneficial for a society to concentrate its resources on creating an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and a strong ideological base for achievement. (CJC)

The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem.

The purpose of this study was to determine which were predictors of smoking behavior on adolescents.

The subjects of this study were 75 male, aged 15-18 years, and smokers. This study were done toward Scale of Parent’s Permissiveness Attitude to smoking behavior, Scale of peer influence, Scale of Psychological Satisfaction, and Scale of Smoking Behavior.

The hypothesis was that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior; influence of peer, psychological satisfaction was predictors toward smoking behavior on adolescents.

There was co-linearity phenomenon between psychological satisfaction and others predictor so that psychological satisfaction out of regression analysis.

The result of regression analysis showed that F value = 22,468 (p < 0,05) and R = (R = 0,620 ate R2 = 0,384). This meant that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior and influence of peer was predictors toward smoking behavior on adolescents. It could be concluded that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior and influence of peer were effectively contribution 38,4%.

Faktor-faktor Penyebab Perilaku Merokok Pada Remaja

Early sex education program through various techniques of giving information could prevent various sexual problems. The purpose of this study was to determine various technique of giving information through lecture, group discussion, and persuasive brochure for students or parents. The subjects of this study were 52 married men and women and 50 students who were randomly divided into 3 groups. This study performed by with pre-test and post-test measurement toward Scale of Healthy Behavior Knowledge. The first hypothesis was that discussion become more effective in improving knowledge of healthty sexual behavior for parents rather than discussion and brochure. The result of one-way variance analysis in gain score showed that F = 50,8526 (p  0,05). Therefore, it can be concluded that lecture, group discussion, and brochure were methods that could be used in the early sex education program for the parents.

Efektivitas pendidikan seksual dini dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan perilaku seksual sehat

Scholars agree that shame has many effects related to psychological functioning declines, and one among others is the fluctuation of self-esteem. However, the association between shame and self-esteem requires further studies. Heterogeneity studies due to different measurements, various sample characteristics, and potential missing research findings may result in uncertain conclusions. This study aimed to explore the relationship between shame and self-esteem by meta-analysis to come up with evidence of heterogeneity and publication bias of the study. Eighteen studies from the initial 235 articles involving the term shame and self-esteem were studied using the random-effects model. A total of 578 samples were included in the study. The overall effect size estimate between shame and self-esteem (r = −.64) indicates that shame correlates negatively with self-esteem and is large effect size. The result showed that heterogeneity study was found (I² = 95.093%). The Meta-regression showed that age moderated the relationship between shame and self-esteem (p = .002), while clinical sample characteristics (p = .232) and study quality (p = .184) did not affect the overall effect size.

Shame and Self-Esteem: A Meta-Analysis

Ada tiga tradisi besar orientasi teori Psikologi dalam menjelaskan dan memprediksi perilaku manusia. Pertama, perilaku disebabkan faktor dari dalam (deterministik). Kedua, perilaku disebabkan faktor lingkungan atau proses belajar. Ketiga perilaku disebabkan interaksi manusia-lingkungan. Psikologi Lingkungan merupakan ilmu perilaku yang berkaitan dengan lingkungan fisik, merupakan salah satu cabang Psikologi yang tergolong masih muda. Teori-teori Psikologi Lingkungan dipengaruhi, baik oleh tradisi teori besar yang berkembang dalam disiplin Psikologi maupun di luar Psikologi. Grand theories yang sering diaplikasikan dalam Psikologi Lingkungan seperti misalnya teori kognitif, behavioristik, dan teori medan. Dikatakan oleh Veitch & Arkkelin (1995) bahwa belum ada grand theories psikologi tersendiri dalam Psikologi Lingkungan. Yang ada sekarang ini baru dalam tataran teori mini. Hal ini didasarkan pandangan, bahwa beberapa teori memang dibangun atas dasar data empiris tetapi sebagian yang lain kurang didukung oleh data empiris. Kedua, metode penelitian yang digunakan belum konsisten. Oleh karenanya dalam kesempatan ini, n disajikan paparan secara garis besar aplikasi 3 tradisi besar orientasi teori dalam Psikologi dan selanjutnya akan dipaparkan lebih mendalam mengenai teori mini dalam Psikologi Lingkungan.

Beberapa teori psikologi lingkungan

Bomer Pasaribu (CLDS, 2002), predicted that educated unemployee in Indonesia is 40 million by December 2002. One solution to decrease educated unemployee is being an entrepreneur. Chandra says that a person can be an entrepreneur if he have an optimum emotional intelligence.

The research examines there is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and intrapreneurship at college students. Intrapreneurship at college students is when college students organization use the talents of their creative members to develop innovative products and services for the organizations. Very simple put, intrapreneurhip at college students is entrepreneurship practiced by people within established organizations. The research subject is college students.

Data is collected by using scale scale A is Emotional Intelligence Scale according to Patton, Cooper, and Sawaf Theory (2000), consists of (1) emotional literacy, (2) emotional fitness, (3) emotional depth, and (4) emotional alchemy. Scale B is Entrepreneurship Scale according to Peter Ferdinand Drucker (1985), consists of (1) able to see a business chance, (2) have a self confidence and able to behave good to their own and environment, (3) leadership behavior, (4) have inisiative, creativity, and innovation, (5) able to be a hard worker, (6) have a wide vision and good optimism, (7) dare to take a calculated risk, (8) have a sensitivity of critic and comment.

The results shows that correlation coefficient level (r) concluded from the two variables is 0,632 with significance level (p) = 0,000 (p < 0,01), so the research hypothesis can be accepted. Emotional Intelligence gives 39,9% effective contribution for Entrepreneurship at college students.
