Full-scale measurements from a large deepwater jack-up platform

This paper compares the effects from nonlinear and linearised soil-structure interaction on the extreme dynamic response of the Troll gravity platform. A procedure for nonlinear stochastic dynamic response analysis based on a finite element model is outlined. In this procedure, a model for nonlinear soil behaviour is applied. The model is parameterised based on experimental investigations in conjunction with finite element soil modelling. Procedures for linearisation of the nonlinear soil model is also presented. Short term extreme storm response and the long term response corresponding to a 100-year return period are calculated applying nonlinear and linearised soil models. Sensitivity of the nonlinear long term response to soil stiffness level is also investigated.
