Journal ArticleDOI
Auroral electron distribution function
TL;DR: In this article, the electron velocity distribution in the 15-25 keV range was studied during a rocket flight over an active aurora, and the results were compared to optical observations made by all-sky cameras and a television system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stability of the auroral plasma: Parallel and perpendicular propagation of electrostatic waves
TL;DR: In this article, the electron distribution function was used to study the stability of plasma in the auroral ionosphere, and the observed plasma is shown to be stable to electrostatic waves that propagate exactly parallel or perpendicular to the magnetic field.
