An enhanced deep learning approach for brain cancer MRI images classification using residual networks

Biomedical image processing is an emerging and most challenging field in recent years. Large sets of similar images are produced by medical imaging applications. Manual image interpretation and analysis becomes a fastidious task due to the huge amount of data. In medical image processing, to classify an image on the basis of statistical inference, MRF classification is a well established method. In this paper we have discussed some key ideas related to Markov Random Field (MRF) and few requisites used in the perspective of issues of medical image analysis.

Biomedical image processing and analysis using Markov Random Fields

The purpose of this research paper is to segment tumorous tissue from brain magnetic resonance images using image processing. For this the astrocytoma, a type of brain tumor is considered in which cells grow abnormally in the brain. Astrocytoma is classified as low grade or high grade using k-nn classifier and then analyzed its performance on the basis of three parameters i.e., accuracy, severity and specificity. The Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) of astrocytoma has been taken from BRATS database so as to explore different algorithms for segmentation of brain tumour. The enhancement of MRI images is done using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE). After that basic global thresholding method is used for the automatic segmentation of tumorous tissue. In feature extraction step, the shape based features and texture based features are extracted. On the basis of features extracted from the segmented image, K-nn classifier is used to classify the images in two grades i.e., low grade or high grade. The performance of the system is evaluated by parameters accuracy, severity and specificity. The accuracy is coming out to be 93%.

Segmentation, Feature Extraction and Classification of Astrocytoma in MR Images

Quality management in real time enables increased efficiency of a production process. A multitude of sensors make it possible to collect a large amount of data and builds the basis for a real time fault detection in the Smart Factory. Hence, it is important that this data, the resulting information, and the knowledge generated by the algorithmic analysis is available at the right time. Therefore, appropriate network architectures such as Edge Computing are required for efficient data transfer. In this context, the paper deals with the challenges of analyzing data gathered by an image sensor in production. The consideration is based on the implementation of an Im-age-Mining-Application for real time error detection in production, which was developed by a design science research approach. In addition to identifying the challenges in this area, algorithms with a high accuracy of fit could be identified. Thus, the results obtained form an important basis for the use of Image-Mining-Applications in Smart Factories.

Image Mining for Real Time Fault Detection within the Smart Factory

This paper is focused on the comparison of three different intensity based feature extraction method for the abnormal patterns in brain tumors. Physician's interpretation of brain tumors may lead to misclassification sometime. Hence an automated system is needed to solve our problem. The following major categories of brain tumor images are taken into our consideration. They are Metastatic bronchogenic carcinoma, Astrocytoma, Meningioma, sarcoma. The performance factor was evaluated against BRATS (Brain Tumor Segmentation) dataset. For the purpose of calculating and extracting various intensity related features MATLAB tool is used. The experimental results suggest that among the intensity based feature extraction methods GLCM (Gray Level Co-Occurance) method is showing better results than the other methods. WEKA tool classification algorithm J48 also shows close correlation with GLCM Features.
