The locking device comprises a cover (11) riveted to the refuse container and housing a locking pin (3) and a steel band multi-spring (5) which are used to lock and to lift the refuse container lid (2). The multi-spring has an accordion-like middle section (7) which prevents self locking, and a locking cylinder (14) is included for key operation (13). The locking device housing is provided with enough space in the area of the locking cylinder for an electromagnet mounted on a refuse collection vehicle to be applied, and for the lock to operate by magnetic force. This area of the housing is further provided with a variable number of stamping (18) of differing shapes to serve as identification for that particular refuse container.

The present invention relates to a sheet orientation detection system. In particular, it relates to a sheet orientation detection system for detecting the orientation of a sheet on a substantially flat surface, the system comprising a sheet- receiving tablet having a substantially flat sheet-receiving surface and a sensing means directed to the underside thereof, the sensing means being adapted to provide a sensor output; a complimentary sheet having a working side and an idle side; and processing means for processing the sensor output into an orientation output. The bar code reader has a head that contains an array of inductive sensors that are spaced relative to each other such that magnetic interference is limited. The sensors sit above the bar code and are stationary. The length of the array exceeds that of the bar code. The sensor outputs are transmitted in sequence using a multiplexer. Two such arrays may be located in parallel. A computer receives the signals which undergo phase changes linked to the bar code pattern. The signals are demodulated for input to the computer. The bar=code pattern mfr. involves producing thin copper strip material by blanking out sections in a pressing operation. The reciprocating punch (5) is used to form two different width of slot (2a,2b) at specific locations on the strip (30). There are two different spacings between adjacent slots. The punch and lower die set used are mounted on a press and a pneumatic feed unit is used to increment the strip. The bar code strip is fixed to a carrier of non conducting material and a inductive sensor is used for reading. This uses signals generated by inducing eddy currents in the strip. USE/ADVANTAGE - Insensitive to contamination and dirt particles.
