A projection-type video display in which the entire input video signal is first digitally corrected through digital gamma correction. Then, a subset of the corrected video signal is corrected again through analogue correction techniques. In particular this portion of the digitally corrected video signal corresponds to the subject where slopes of applied voltage-transmissivity characteristic curve (V-T curve) of liquid crystal changes relatively rapidly. The result is a more accurate gamma correction which is also less expensive than conventional, purely digital gamma correction systems. Another feature is the inclusion of three liquid crystal light valves, each having have a plurality of pixels arranged in the matrix and identical shift registers in such a way that pixels of one scanning line are driven selectively and sequentially from the same horizontal direction according to a given set of video signals, a memory where at least video signals for pixels of one scanning line are written and stored, a first drive controller for outputting video signals of one scanning line from memory in the order in which the video signals were written and supplying the video signals to pixels of a scanning line in at least one of light valves, and a second drive controller for outputting video signals of one scanning line from memory in a reverse order in which video signals were written thereto for supplying another light valve. Also disclosed is recognition unit for recognizing different types of input video signal format systems and a write controller for controlling the way of writing input video signals of each scanning line into pixels of horizontal scanning lines in the light valves based on different type of input video signal format system.

Projection-type display apparatus

A projector, includes: a light source device; an optical device that modulates a light beam irradiated from the light source device in accordance with image information; and a projection optical device that projects the light beam modulated by the optical device. The optical device includes: an optical element optically converting the light beam incident thereon and emitting the converted light beam; and a heat-conducting member that is connected with the optical element in a heat transferable manner to cool the optical element. The heat-conducting member includes a heat pipe having: a tube; a capillary structure provided in the tube; and a coolant housed in the tube, the coolant circulating in the tube to transfer heat in the heat-conducting member. An optical-element-side connecting portion of the optical element to be connected with the heat-conducting member and a heat-conducting-member-side connecting portion of the heat-conducting member to be connected with the optical-element-side connecting portion are configured to be in a surface-contact when the connecting portions are connected to each other.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce electric power consumption, and to enhance utilization efficiency of the light by constituting a vehicular lighting fixture of a spheroidal reflecting surface for reflecting the light to the opposite side of the irradiating direction, a first reflecting surface for reflecting the light from a light source reflected by the spheroidal reflecting surface in the irradiating direction and a second reflecting surface for reflecting the direct light from the light source in the irradiating direction. SOLUTION: A part of the light from a light source 2 is reflected by a spheroidal reflecting surface 3a, and then, proceeds in the opposite direction of the irradiating direction of this vehicular lighting fixture 1 to be focused on a second focus 5. Since the spheroidal reflecting surface 3a rotates with the optical axis X as the center, the second focus 5 is positioned in a ring shape with the optical axis X as the center to control the light from a light source 2 in all directions. A first reflecting surface 4a reflects the light reflected by the spheroidal reflecting surface 3a in the irradiating direction of the vehicular lighting fixture 1. A second reflecting surface 4b receives the light except for the light irradiated to the spheroidal reflecting surface 3a among the light radiated from the light source 2 to radiate almost parallel beams of light in the irradiating direction of the vehicular lighting fixture 1 so that the light from the light source 1 is not directly irradiated in the irradiating direction. A presentation system comprises a screen, a laser pointer operated by a user to project laser beam on the screen, and an infrared light projector for emitting infrared light on the entire surface of the screen. The laser pointer comprises an infrared light receiving section directed in the same direction as a projection direction of laser beam for receiving infrared light projected from the infrared light projector and reflected from the screen, and a control section for causing the laser pointer to project laser beam only while the infrared light receiving section is receiving infrared light.

Presentation system using laser pointer

An illuminating apparatus includes an inner surface reflection type integrator, a condensing optical system for condensing light from a light source on or near the light incidence portion of the integrator, and an imaging optical system for imaging the light emergence portion of the integrator or the vicinity thereof on a surface to be illuminating. The integrator reflects at least part of light which has entered the interior thereof from the light incidence portion thereof by the inner surface thereof to thereby propagate it to the light emergence portion thereof, thereby forming light of which the intensity distribution has been uniformized on or near the light emergence portion. The imaging optical system has a polarizing beam splitter for dividing the light from the integrator into a plurality of polarized lights differing in the direction of polarization from one another. In addition, a changing member changes the direction of polarization of at least one of the plurality of polarized lights to thereby bring the directions of polarization of the plurality of polarized lights into coincidence with one another, the plurality of polarized lights having had their directions of polarization brought into coincidence with one another being caused to enter the surface to be illuminated.

Illuminating apparatus and projecting apparatus

PURPOSE: To constitute a miniaturized and compact polarized light illuminator where an integrator optical system and a polarized light conversion optical system are combined and whose light utilization efficiency is high. CONSTITUTION: This polarized light illuminator 1 is provided with a light source part 2 emitting light whose polarization direction is random, a 1st lens plate 3 constituted of plural rectangular condenser lenses whose outside shape is rectangular and condensing the light emitted from the light source so that plural secondary light source images may be formed, and a 2nd lens plate 4 placed near a position where the plural secondary light source images are formed and equipped with a condenser lens array, a polarized light separation prism array 420, a λ/2 phase difference plate 430, and an emitting side lens 440. In a stage where the minute secondary light source image is formed by the 1st lens plate 3 constituting the integrator optical system, polarized light is separated. Therefore, since the spatial spread of an optical path associated with the separation of the polarized light is restrained, the illuminator 1 is miniaturized though it is provided with the polarized light conversion optical system.

SOLUTION: An image pickup part 5 provided for the upper part of a screen 7 photographs an indication tool 1 which the presenter 9 holds. Infrared LED are arranged in the respective apexes of an isosceles triangle and at the back of a center, the direction of the indication tool is obtained from the position relation of infrared LED of an image which the image pickup part 5 picks up, a coordinate is converted and it is sent to a computer 10. Remote coordinate input device/method

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a laser pointer and a presentation system which do not give unpleasant feeling to an audience. SOLUTION: This laser pointer 100 is composed of an infrared-ray projection part 112 which projects infrared rays, a reception part 180 which receives the detection signal that a CCD camera picking up an image of a specific projection allowed area outputs when detecting the infrared rays, and a control part 130 which allows the projection of the laser light from the laser projection part 110 which receiving the detection signal. Consequently, the infrared rays and laser light are projected in the same direction, so the projection position of the infrared rays and the projection position of the laser light nearly meet each other, so that the laser light is considered to be also in the laser projection allowed area on condition that the infrared rays are in the laser projection allowed area. For the purpose, it is decided that the infrared rays are in the laser projection allowed area and then when the laser projection allowed area is indicated, control for projecting the laser light becomes possible.
