A wireless communication apparatus performs bi-directional communication with an initiator. The apparatus is allocated an allocation period for data transmission from the initiator. The apparatus includes means for generating a first physical frame including an acknowledgement frame with respect to data received from the initiator, and generating a second physical frame in which a plurality of transmission data frames addressed to the initiator are aggregated. The apparatus also includes means for transmitting the first physical frame at a first transmission rate and the second physical frame at a second transmission rate, during the allocation period.

In one example, a system for assigning addresses to a plurality of devices within a network includes a memory and at least one processor coupled to the memory. The system is configured to instruct all of the plurality of devices to respectively select a first dynamic address from a first set of dynamic addresses, respectively assign a different static address to each device having a first dynamic address that uniquely identifies the device, instruct all of the plurality of devices having a first dynamic address that identifies at least two devices to respectively select a second dynamic address from a second set of dynamic addresses and respectively assign another different static address to each device having a second dynamic address that uniquely identifies the device.

System and method for automatically addressing devices in a multi-drop network

Systems and methods for regulating the throughput of a channel between a gateway and one or more subscriber terminals are disclosed. Various embodiments of the invention provide for monitoring link utilization between a gateway and a subscriber terminal at, for example, the physical layer of the OSI model. Based in part on the link utilization the link throughput may be throttled at a layer higher than, for example, the transport layer. Regulating may occur by advertising a decreased TCP window size or intelligently dropping packets. In another embodiment, a subscriber terminal may estimate the signal to noise ratio of a forward link channel and communicate this SNR to the gateway. The gateway may adjust the modulation and/or coding of the signal in response to the SNR. The gateway may also throttle deliver of packets in response to changes these changes in the modulation and/or coding of the signal.

Dynamic feedback for outbound link rate adjustment in multi-rate downstream

A multi-mode congestion control is employed in a transport network (9) interconnecting a radio access node (4) and a control node (5) of a communication network (1). The transport network (9) employs a window-based state providing a window-based congestion control mode for a data flow. This mode involves notifying an application level transport protocol implemented in a sending source (7, 8) of the communication network (1) of any detected congestion event. If a congestion event in the transport network (9) is detected a switch to a rate-based state is performed. The rate-based state provides a rate-based congestion control mode involving transmitting a rate-reducing message from the radio access node (4) to the control node (5) to trigger a reduction in the bitrate of the data flow in response to the detected congestion event.

Hybrid congestion control

A capability for controlling a size of a congestion window of an information transmission connection (ITC) is provided. The size of the congestion window of the ITC may be controlled based on a threshold, which may be based on an ideal bandwidth-delay product (IBDP) value. The IBDP value may be based on a product of an information transmission rate measure and a time measure. The information transmission rate measure may be based on a target information transmission rate for the ITC. The time measure may be based on a round-trip time measured between a sender of the ITC and a receiver of the ITC. The threshold may be a cap threshold where the size of the congestion window is prevented from exceeding the cap threshold. The threshold may be a reset threshold which may be used to control a reduction of the size of the congestion window.

Control of congestion window size of an information transmission connection

A method and a system is provided for optimizing the throughput of a TCP flow from a TCP source to a TCP destination in a wireless network with the path of the flow encompassing a wireless link between a wireless transmitter and a wireless receiver. The throughput is optimized by using link-layer mechanisms at the wireless transmitter which are adaptive to the instantaneous TCP dynamics of the TCP flow. In particular, a cross-layer approach is disclosed which serves to tunnel information of TCP congestion control dynamics directly from the TCP based transport layer to the data link-layer which selects in response to these information modulation and/or coding schemas to transmit TCP segments via data link-layer blocks with improved TCP throughput.
