With population growth, the demand for vehicles has increased tremendously, which has created an alarming situation in terms of traffic hazards and road accidents. The road accidents percentage is growing exponentially and so are the fatalities caused due to accidents. However, the primary cause of the increased rate of fatalities is due to the delay in emergency services. Many lives could be saved with efficient rescue services. The delay happens due to traffic congestion or unstable communication to the medical units. The implementation of automatic road accident detection systems to provide timely aid is crucial. Many solutions have been proposed in the literature for automatic accident detection. The techniques include crash prediction using smartphones, vehicular ad-hoc networks, GPS/GSM based systems, and various machine learning techniques. With such high rates of deaths associated with road accidents, road safety is the most critical sector that demands significant exploration. In this paper, we present a critical analysis of various existing methodologies used for predicting and preventing road accidents, highlighting their strengths, limitations, and challenges that need to be addressed to ensure road safety and save valuable lives.

The video recording of the accident along with the exact location of the accident site fetched using a GPS-GSM module, along with the driver details will be immediately notified via internet to the nearest Emergency Response Units (ERU) through the Emergency Services portal of a dedicated mobile application. Pedestrians can also use the Pedestrian portal in the application to send live image and video feed to the Emergency services. An offline feature, allows sending accident alert and exact accident location to the nearest ERUs/pre-saved emergency contact numbers in the form of a simple text message. The work in this paper provides an automated system for emergency support in case of accidents.

Prototype Proposal for Quick Accident Detection and Response System

Vehicle accidents have become one of the major issues, which cause the death of many people around the globe. Presently India is in the top-ranked in death due to road accidents. This is a serious matter, which needs to be solved to save the life of many injured people due to accidents. To solve this problem many automobile companies have done different systems such as safety airbags, seat belts, camera sensors, etc. but still the cause and the effect of the accident cannot be reduced. One of the major solutions is to provide proper medical treatment to the victim on time. According to statistics whenever any kind of accident happens, the witness of the accident hesitates to help the victim due to the long procedure of reporting and inquiry to the police. Mostly the victim is not in a condition to ask for any sort of help from others in that situation. In such a situation, the life of the victim is in danger due to the lack of proper treatment and medical facility in time. To solve this problem there is an urgent requirement of a system that automatically detects the accident and based on that information it communicates about the accident and its location to the hospital and relative without any delay. In this work, an Arduino based Automatic Accident Detection and Location Communication System (AAADLCS) is developed that continuously tracks the location of the vehicle, when any kind of accident occurs. It automatically detects the accident and based on that information it sends that location to the hospital, relatives, and to the police quickly. The key benefit of this system is its low cost, easy to implement, easy to use, processing speed, high accuracy, and its self-reliance.

An Arduino Based Automatic Accident Detection and Location Communication System

Road accidents are a human tragedy. They involve high human suffering and monetary costs in terms of untimely deaths, injuries and loss of potential income. There are so many new techniques such as Antilock Breaking System (ABS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Anti Collision System (ACS) to avoid accidents and in spite of all this, such large number of accidents takes place. Hence this paper presents a system which gives an idea about what can be done to provide medical help and other facilities after accident as soon as possible. Accident can be detected using flex sensor and accelerometer, while location of accident will be informed to desired persons such as nearest hospital, police and owner of vehicle through sms sent using GSM modem containing co-ordinates obtained from GPS along with time of accident and vehicle number. Camera located inside vehicle will transmit real time video to see current situation of passengers inside vehicle. Thus this paper emphasizes on post-accident system for detecting and informing about it. Simulation result on hyper terminal is also presented in this paper.
