Perovskite‐Based Phototransistors and Hybrid Photodetectors

Organic–inorganic hybrid perovskites have been intensively researched in the past decade for their optoelectronic properties. The emergence of Ruddlesden–Popper perovskites, which have mixed dimensionality, has heralded new opportunities for tailor-made semiconductors that combine enhanced stability with useful properties between those of 2D and 3D systems. Inspired by advances in 2D materials research, there is growing interest in molecularly thin versions of these hybrid perovskites, owing to their ease of incorporation into electronic devices. There is, thus, a need to understand thickness-dependent electrical, excitonic and phononic properties that go beyond quantum-confinement effects. Recent studies have shown that, apart from tuning the dimensionality of the system, fine-tuning its thickness also helps to optimize performance in different applications, ranging from third-harmonic generation to photodetectors and spintronics. Owing to their layered structure, the properties of 2D perovskites can be controlled by tuning their thickness. This Review surveys how fine-tuning the thickness of 2D perovskites from the sub-micrometre to the molecularly thin regime helps to optimize their electrical and optical properties for use in different applications.

Recent Progress in Short- to Long-Wave Infrared Photodetection Using 2D Materials and Heterostructures

Insight into lead-free organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites for photovoltaics and optoelectronics: A first-principles study

In recent years, metal halide perovskites have been widely investigated to fabricate photodetectors for image sensing due to the excellent photoelectric performance, tunable bandgap, and low-cost solution preparation process. In this review, a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in perovskite photodetectors for image sensing is provided. First, the key performance parameters and the basic device types of photodetectors are briefly introduced. Then, the recent developments of image sensors on the basis of different dimensional perovskite materials, including 0D, 1D, 2D, and 3D perovskite materials, are highlighted. Besides the device structures and photoelectric properties of perovskite image sensors, the preparation methods of perovskite photodetector arrays are also analyzed. Subsequently, the single-pixel imaging of perovskite photodetectors and the strategies to fabricate narrowband perovskite photodetectors for color discrimination are discussed. Finally, the potential challenges and possible solutions for the future development of perovskite image sensors are presented.

Recent progress in organometal halide perovskite photodetectors

In this work, several organic crystals of anthracene (Ac), tetracene (Tc), pentacene (Pc) and 2,5-diphenyl-1,4-distyrylbenzene with two trans double bonds (DPDSB) have been prepared by the physical vapor transport (PVT) method. The structural characteristics of these crystals are investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). In the PVT method, the growth temperature influences the kinetic energy of molecules and the disturbance of crystal lattices caused by intermolecular interactions during the crystal formation process. The crystal grown at the lower temperature has a smaller monolayer thickness and a narrower full width at half maximum (FWHM) calculated from diffraction peak degrees given by XRD data, which indicates that the molecules are more orderly arranged, compared with the crystal grown at the higher temperature. Based on the crystal growth thermodynamic characteristics in vapor, Tc doped Ac crystals with partial energy transfer (sky-blue emission) and nearly complete energy transfer (green emission) have been prepared corresponding to the low temperature and high temperature growth conditions, respectively. The photoluminescence efficiencies of Tc doped Ac crystals with sky-blue emission and green emission are ~40% and ~74%, the energy transfer efficiencies are 63.8% and 98.9%, respectively. Our results are relevant to the understanding of organic crystal growth thermodynamic behaviors and guide us to the design and preparation of color-tunable emission and high-luminescence efficiency organic crystals that are expected to be of interest for organic light emitting transistors, diodes and lasers.
