Aim: The oral cavity has the particularity to host multiple hard and soft tissues, in this paper, we will discuss the current therapies that lead to cell differentiation by regenerative therapies and the future alternatives proposed by medicinal plants and all the regenerative potential of these different tissues. Material and Methods: A detailed review of the literature through the various search engines: Scopus, PubMed, google scholar, Cochrane, etc., uses the selected keywords to explore the effect of the regenerative potential of several medicinal plants. Results: Through our research, we have proceeded to sort different medicinal plants, according to their repairing and regenerative potential on the different tissues of the oral cavity. Conclusion: Future studies are conceivable to explore the opportunities and potential provided by medicinal plants in the field of regenerative dentistry. 

An Overview of the Use of Medicinal Plants in Regenerative Dentistry

Periodontitis is a prevalent chronic inflammatory disease in developing countries which may impose multiple negative impacts on the quality of life. The possible role of psychosocial factors in the aetiology of inflammatory periodontal diseases needs further investigations to establish the fact. Objective: To evaluate the general periodontal health and the relationship of periodontal inflammation with multiple common stress factors among the socially deprived and separated women residing in a shelter home of Multan city. Methods: This group comparative study spanned over one month. Through  purposive sampling, a cohort of 115 women aged 20-40 years, residing in the SOS village shelter home, Multan  for more than a month were included. Women were divided into Cases (with stress) and Controls (without stress) and were matched for age and educational status. Periodontal examination was done employing Community Periodontal Index while Life Events Scale was used to assess the type of stress. A structured and validated questionnaire was used to record the readings. Descriptive statistical measures including mean and frequency percentages along with Logistic regression analysis were used employing SPSS version 21. Results: Significant relationship (P<0.001) was found between periodontal disease and self-health-related stress, financial stress and family health-related stress. Logistic regression analysis revealed that subjects who felt self-health-related stress are 0.016,  financial stress are 0.125 and  family health-related stress are 0.207 times more prone to have periodontal disease than those who never or rarely felt such stresses. Conclusion: Self-health-related stress, financial stress and family health-related stress are the potential risk indicators for the development of periodontal disease among socially deprived women

Laboratory examinations have established that many favorable natural ingredients are present in almost all types of miswak sticks which provide both systemic and local oral curative effects. It has been reviewed that miswak particularly contains ascorbic and tannic acids which have verified effectiveness in healing inflamed and bleeding gums. Comparative Clinical Effects of Salvadora Persica Oral Rinse and A Phenolic Commercial Mouth Wash on Human Oral Health; An Invivo Randomized Trial

animals by applying coconut milk. METHODOLOGY: This experimental study was spanned over one month. It was carried out at animal experimental lab of University of Health Sciences Lahore, Pakistan. A total of 30 rabbits were divided into 2 groups (Group A & B, control & experimental respectively). Oral ulcers were induced in all the rabbits by using 4mm diameter punch biopsy apparatus through standard protocol. Normal healing in Control group was compared with the healing effects of medicament (coconut milk) which was applied topically thrice daily for fourteen days in Experimental group. Biopsies from both the groups were taken on 1, 4th, 7th and 14th day to see gross morphological as well as histological changes. RESULTS: Effects of coconut milk on healing of oral ulcers in experimental group, showed a sharp contrast with that of control group (p=0.001) especially on day 7th where maximum healing was induced by coconut milk. CONCLUSIONS: Coconut milk enhanced the healing of oral ulcers. Coconut milk has proved far superior healing effects on oral mucosa and therefore recommended as a natural healing medicament to be used as an alternate ulcer healing agent which is easily available, safe and inexpensive.
