TL;DR: Benedict Anderson as mentioned in this paper explores the impact of avant-garde European literature and politics on the great Filipino political novelist Jose Rizal and his contemporary, the pioneering folklorist Isabelo de los Reyes and, in doing so, depicts the dense intertwining of radical internationalism and anti-colonial nationalism.
Abstract: Benedict Anderson continues the historical and theoretical project begun in Imagined Communities, his classic work on nationalism, by providing a compelling exploration of fin-de-siecle politics and culture that spans the Caribbean, Imperial Europe and the South China Sea. He explores the impact of avant-garde European literature and politics on the great Filipino political novelist Jose Rizal and his contemporary, the pioneering folklorist Isabelo de los Reyes and, in doing so, depicts the dense intertwining of radical internationalism and anti-colonial nationalism, a process that gave birth to the politics of early anti-globalization.
