The time required to boot a computer is reduced by reducing or eliminating the need to discover many or all devices within the computer and the machine topology. Access panels are monitored so that it is detected when they are opened. For the access panels that have not been opened, it is assumed that the system configuration, topology, devices, etc. have not changed since the last boot process and there is no need to spend time discovering these devices and machine topology. Stored, instead of discovered, configuration information is then used to configure these devices. This reduces the time required to boot since discovery of devices is not performed. A service processor or other logic may be used to detect which access panels are opened. Also, only those elements of the configuration that may be affected by the particular access panels that were opened need to be re-discovered.

Reducing boot times via intrusion monitoring

In a television receiver having a decryption unit and a video display unit arranged in one case, it is possible to protect the copyright of an encrypted digital video signal or analog video signal. When an encrypted digital video signal is inputted to a digital video signal input terminal, the signal is decrypted in a decode circuit to obtain a decrypted video signal which can be copied and visualized in a video display unit. Here, when a case cover is opened, a decode control circuit modifies a parameter required for decryption such as an encryption key to a meaningless parameter for output to the decode circuit. Accordingly, the decrypted video signal becomes a video signal not decrypted. On the other hand, during maintenance, by inputting a predetermined code via a button group (18), normal decryption parameter is outputted to the decode circuit (13).

This disclosure is directed to devices, integrated circuits, and methods for sensing cumulative radiation doses. In one example, a device includes a cell configured to be set to an initial resistance and to vary in resistance cumulatively in response to incident radiation. The device also includes an output terminal connected to the cell and configured to vary in voltage in response to the resistance of the cell. The device also includes a comparator configured to deliver an output signal in response to the voltage of the output terminal reaching a threshold voltage. The device also includes a cell charging circuit configured to reset the cell to the initial resistance in response to the output signal from the comparator. The device also includes a counter configured to count a number of times the comparator delivers the output signal.

A computer uses an optical reflective optical sensor to detect the removal of a cover of the computer housing. The reflective optical sensor includes a light emitter and a light detector, and is mounted adjacent a reflective surface on the inner side of the cover when the cover is in place such that the light emitter is reflected by the reflective surface and received by the light detector. When the cover is removed, the intensity of the reflected light received by the light detector drops. The change in the output of the light detector triggers the operating system of the computer to power down the computer.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a swiftly growing technology and business domain that is expected to revolutionize the modern trade. Nonetheless, shortcomings in security are common in this new domain and security issues are the Achilles' heel of the new technology. In this study, we analyze different security solutions for IoT devices and propose suitable techniques for further analysis. The aim of this study is to provide guidance on implementing security solutions for both existing and coming devices of Internet of Things, by providing analysis and defining the Complexity of Implementation score for each solution.

Software Security Considerations for IoT

An optical intrusion detection system includes an electromagnetic radiation detector located within the chassis of a personal computer or the like. The EM detector, such as a photodiode or phototransistor, detects EM radiation when the chassis is opened (allowing a person to modify or remove the contents thereof). The EM detector sends a detection signal to a latching mechanism that latches the signal and maintains the signal even after the chassis is closed. A detection component is provided which supplies the detection signal as a data signal to a network administrator terminal coupled to the personal computer where the optical intrusion detection system is installed. A feature of the detection system of the present invention is that intrusion into the chassis is detected silently and without alerting the individual opening the chassis.

A method for making fuel cells is disclosed and includes placing catalyst strips on an anode side and a cathode side of a proton exchange membrane disposed between carbon bases. The method includes metalizing at least two collectors, and drilling a plurality of paths through the body portions to form a first and second metalized collectors, which are placed on opposite sides of the proton exchange membrane to form a membrane electrode assembly. The metalized collectors are connected to form an electrical circuit for operating the fuel cell. A flexible fuel plenum and a flexible oxidant plenum are disposed on opposite sides of the membrane electrode assembly, and a fuel manifold and an oxidant manifold of a sealable two-part housing engage the membrane electrode assembly to provide oxidant to the flexible oxidant plenum and fuel to the flexible fuel plenum forming an operational singe unit fuel cell.

Method for making a single unit fuel cell

A fuel cell stack including a housing for holding fuel cells is disclosed. Each fuel cell includes a membrane electrode assembly with a proton exchange membrane disposed between carbon bases, a connector for engaging metalized collectors to form an electrical circuit for operating the fuel cell stack, and a sealable two-part housing for supporting an oxidant manifold and a fuel manifold that support the membrane electrode assembly and flexible plenums of each fuel cell. The fuel cell stack includes fuel cell connectors for connecting an anode from one fuel cell with a cathode from an adjacent fuel cell, a fuel intake in communication with a fuel source and an oxidant intake in communication with an oxidant source for providing fuel and oxidant into the fuel cell stack, a controller for monitoring and regulating fuel and oxidant, and a fuel manifold engaging fuel intakes and an oxidant manifold engaging oxidant intakes.
