Evolutionary dynamics of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes: higher intensities of purifying selection than other genes.
Michael A. Thomas,Benjamin W Weston,Moltu Joseph,Wenhua Wu,Anton Nekrutenko,Peter J. Tonellato +5 more
TL;DR: A significant overlap is found between human oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes and "essential genes," human homologs of mouse lethal genes identified by knockout experiments, which provides insight into the etiology of cancer and the differences between genes involved in cancer and those implicated in other human diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Does an individualized feedback mechanism improve quality of out-of-hospital CPR?
TL;DR: It is found that individual CPR feedback is associated with marginally improved quality of CPR in the prehospital setting, though goal achievement was high in both groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cocaine use in inner city african american research volunteers.
Benjamin W Weston,Shanthi Krishnaswami,Maraty T. Gray,Gerard Coly,Jane Morley Kotchen,Clarence E. Grim,Theodore A. Kotchen +6 more
TL;DR: A high prevalence of substance use was detected among inner city African Americans offered financial incentives for participating in a general medical research protocol, and may be relevant for designing future clinical trials and drug use intervention programs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Saving Lives with Tourniquets: A Review of Penetrating Injury Medical Examiner Cases
TL;DR: Among urban ME cases, both isolated extremity cases and concurrent extremity-central injuries exist that may be amenable to life-saving tourniquet use, and extrapolating the findings nationwide suggests that many lives could be saved with early tournique placement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Self-Assessment Feedback Form Improves Quality of Out-of-Hospital CPR.
Benjamin W Weston,Jamie Jasti,Melissa Mena,Jackson Unteriner,Kelly Tillotson,Ziyan Yin,M. Riccardo Colella,Tom P. Aufderheide +7 more
TL;DR: This post-event, self-assessment, CQI feedback form was associated with significant improvement in delivery of out-of-hospital CPR depth, fraction and preshock pause time.
