A dual volume air spring (5) for a truck suspension, which has an air bag chamber providing a variable volume (6) and a fixed volume chamber (7). The chambers are interconnected by a closable orifice (12). The air bag is provided with a post-like orifice closer (20) which is pushed into the orifice when the air bag (9) is sufficiently compressed ad withdrawn from the orifice when the air bag is not compressed. In normal operation the orifice is open and combined volumes of the chambers are available resulting in a low spring rate. The orifice closer (20) has an orifice closing portion (22) which is relatively pliant and a rigid or semi-rigid portion (21) which acts as a bump-stop when the pliant portion is substantially completely compressed. When the orifice is completely closed the spring has a high spring rate.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine Luftfeder (1) fur ein Kraftfahrzeug mit einem Deckel (2) zur Anbindung der Luftfeder (1) an den Aufbau des Kraftfahrzeugs, mit einem Abrollkolben (3) und einem Anschlusskolben (4) zur Verbindung der Luftfeder (1) mit einem Rad des Kraftfahrzeugs, wobei der Abrollkolben (3) und der Anschlusskolben (4) mit einem Abrollbalg (5) verbunden sind und einen Luftfederraum (6) bilden. Zur Vermeidung von Druckspitzen im Luftfederraum (6), die den Abrollbalg (5) schadigen konnen, ist erfindungsgemas vorgesehen, dass im Anschlusskolben (4) ein Zusatzraum (7) ausgebildet ist, dessen veranderbares Volumen freigebbar ist.

An air spring has a roll-off piston (1) and a rolling-lobe flexible member (2) of rubber or rubber-like material. At least the opening of the rolling-lobe flexible member, which lies opposite the opening assigned to the roll-off piston (1), is closed air tight with an attachment part (3) and the attachment part has a planar connecting region (4) having at least one air connection (7) and an outer rim (11) and a conical region (10) facing toward the rolling-lobe flexible member (2). The rolling-lobe flexible member (2) is tightly vulcanized to the attachment part (3) in a vulcanization region (12) which extends from the side (9) of the outer rim (11) into the conical region (10). The side (9) of the outer rim (11) faces toward the rolling-lobe flexible member (2). The at least one attachment part (3), which is vulcanized to the rolling-lobe flexible member (2), is configured as a head plate (3) complete with all connections (7) and is made of thermoplastic or duroplastic synthetic material.

A pneumatic spring with an elastomeric rolling bellows that can be supplied with compressed air is attached airtightly at each of its ends to respective connection parts. One connection part is designed as a rolling piston (10) on which a rolling fold of the rolling bellows is supported. The rolling piston is of hollow design and forms an additional air chamber connected to the interior of the bellows. In order to achieve increased spring stiffness of the pneumatic spring in the face of long spring travels by means of a spring volume which can be decoupled, a double-acting closing part (24) is arranged in an opening (21) in the end wall (19) of the rolling piston (10) which is assigned to the interior (25) of the bellows. The closing part (24) is connected to a compression spring (33) which is supported against the other connection part (15). Above and below the opening (21) the closing part (24) has respective valve plates (26; 27) by means of which the opening (21) can be closed off in an airtight manner.
