An execution architecture, a development architecture and an operations architecture for a netcentric computing system. The execution architecture contains common, run-time services required when an application executes in the netcentric computing system. The development architecture is the production environment for one or several systems development projects as well as for maintenance efforts. The purpose of the development environment is to support the tasks involved in the analysis, design, construction, and maintenance of business systems, as well as the associated management processes. It is important to note that the environment should adequately support all the development tasks, not just the code/compile/test/debug cycle. The operations architecture is a combination of tools and support services required to keep a production system up and running efficiently.

Architectures for netcentric computing systems

Using digital technology to deliver content, connect learners, and enable anytime, anywhere learning is increasing, but keeping students engaged in technology-mediated learning is challenging. Instructional practices that encourage greater engagement are essential if we are to effectively use digital instructional technologies. To determine the impact of innovative instructional practices on learning, we need useful measures of student engagement. These measures should be adaptable to the unique challenges to studying technology-mediated learning, such as when students learn at a distance or in a blended learning course. In this review, we examine existing approaches to measure engagement in technology-mediated learning. We identify strengths and limitations of existing measures and outline potential approaches to improve the measurement of student engagement. Our intent is to assist researchers, instructors, designers, and others in identifying effective methods to conceptualize and measure student engagement in technology-mediated learning. Consensus is needed for the definition and operationalization of student engagement.Most technology-mediated learning research uses self-report measures of engagement.Physiological and systems data offer an alternative method to measuring engagement.More research is needed to study the role of emotional engagement in learning.More research needed to determine value of physiological and systems data.

Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education: Faculty Inventory. Institutional Inventory.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology dramatically increases the ability of the organization to acquire a vast array of data about the location and properties of any entity that can be physically tagged and wirelessly scanned within certain technical limitations. RFID can be applied to a variety of tasks, structures, work systems and contexts along the value chain, including business-to-business logistics, internal operations, business-to-consumer marketing, and after-sales service applications. As industry adoption of RFID increases there is an emerging interest by academic researchers to engage in scholarly investigation to understand how RFID relates to mobility, organizational and systems technologies (MOST). In this paper, we explore RFID and propose a research agenda to address a series of broad research questions related to how RFID technology: (1) is developed, adopted, and implemented by organizations; (2) is used, supported, and evolved within organizations and alliances; and (3) impacts individuals, business processes, organizations, and markets. As with many technological innovations, as the technical problems associated with implementing and using RFID are addressed and resolved, the managerial and organizational issues will emerge as critical areas for IS research.

Making the `MOST' out of RFID technology: a research agenda for the study of the adoption, usage and impact of RFID

This chapter begins with a brief discussion of variations in productive efficiency using airlines as an example. It then presents the main purpose of the book, which is to study inefficiency in production and its impact on economic and financial performance. The chapter then provides background material and focuses on hypotheses that have been proposed in literature that would explain variation in producer performance; lays the theoretical foundation for the measurement of productive efficiency; offers a brief introduction to alternative techniques that have been developed to quantify inefficiency empirically; introduces various econometric approaches to efficiency estimation; introduces variants of the mathematical programming approach to efficiency estimation; introduces the Malmquist productivity index and shows how to decompose it into various sources of productivity change, including variation in productive efficiency; and describes three ways of approximating a Malmquist productivity index: the use of superlative index numbers, the use of econometric techniques, and the use of mathematical programming techniques. Software reuse and systems interoperability have been primary goals of many IT organizations, especially those that rely heavily on computer networks. Object-oriented (OO) technology has been utilized to accomplish these goals with relative success over the years; but there are many hurdles that OO technology could not overcome. One of them is due to lack of standards. An object developed in one vendor's technology cannot easily communicate with another's. Another difficulty is that the majority of software applications reside behind firewalls – security barriers that restrict communication between networks. Web Services: An Analysis of the Technology, its Benefits, and Implementation Difficulties

As a result of the dot‐com collapse and the slowdown in the economy, the flood of venture capital dollars for e‐commerce has evaporated. E‐commerce companies have been enforced to review their business performance. E‐commerce efficiency has been touted to be a critical component that can assist a company in its strategies to become successful. This study proposes a model for evaluating e‐commerce efficiency using data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach. The model includes not only financial and operational measures, but also e‐commerce specific measures. An illustrative example demonstrates that the DEA model can not only effectively reflect the relative efficiency of e‐commerce firms but also identify their potential efficiency problems. Management can, therefore, take the right remedial actions.

Measuring e‐commerce efficiency: a data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach

The Technology Acceptance Model was extended to explain the acceptance of mobile devices. The technological characteristics of mobile devices and trust were hypothesised as predictors of mobile device usage. The study of 212 mobile users indicate that device service reliability does influence perceived trust, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness, while device interface quality only predicts perceived trust and perceived ease of use. The findings suggest that trust and mobile device characteristics play essential roles in the acceptance of mobile device usage, and need to be incorporated into the design of future mobile commerce applications.

Evaluating the technological characteristics and trust affecting mobile device usage

The advent of the World Wide Web changes the way we do things. It also greatly changes how computer software are built. While this profound evolution of software development has caused many in the software industry to change their way of developing software, it has not caused many in the academics to change their way of teaching computing. This paper describes a course that teaches web development technologies. The contents of the course, the experience gained, and related educational resources are presented.
