The ecological security pattern is an important way to coordinate the contradiction between regional economic development and ecological protection and is conducive to promoting regional sustainable development. This study examines Guangxi, a karst region in China. The ecosystem service function and ecological environment sensitivity were both selected to evaluate the ecological conservation importance, and based on the results of the ecological conservation importance evaluation, suitable patches were selected as ecological sources. Meanwhile, resistance factors were selected from both natural factors and human activities to construct a comprehensive resistance surface, circuit theory was used to identify ecological corridors, ecological pinch points, and ecological barrier points, and ecological protection suggestions were then proposed. The results show that there are 50 patches of ecological sources in Guangxi, with a total area of 60,556.99 km2; 115 ecological corridors, with the longest corridor reaching 194.97 km; 301 ecological pinch points, whose spatial distribution is fragmented; and 286 ecological barrier points, most of which are concentrated in the central part of Guangxi. The results of this study provide a reference for the construction of ecological security patterns and ecological conservation in developing countries and karst areas.

Comparative ecological network pattern analysis: a case of Nanchang

Knowledge of river engineering impacts on water discharge is significant to flow guidelines and sustainable water resource managements for balancing human consumption and the natural environment. In this study, based on the collected multi-decadal discharge data at Yichang, Hankou, and Datong stations, we determined that in October, Three Gorges Dam contributed 34.4%, 24.5%, and 18.7% to the discharge decrease in the upper, middle, and lower reach, respectively, while Gezhouba Dam contributed 14.5%, 10.7%, and 10%. Danjiangkou Reservoir caused the discharge ratio of Hanjiang to Changjiang to decline from 7.2% during 1954–1973 to 6.3% during 1973–2014. Owing to growing water withdrawal and consumption, we suggest that the distribution of water diversion and consumption should be regulated to prevent the probable occurrence of the severe issue of salt water intrusion in the Changjiang Estuary in 2028.

Impacts of River Engineering on Multi-Decadal Water Discharge of the Mega-Changjiang River

The invention provides an estuary and coastal hydrogeomorphic evolution image monitoring and analyzing system and method. The method comprises the following steps of arranging a coast video monitoringunit at a highland of the estuary coast; transmitting acquired image data to a data processing unit; and enabling a data processing unit to carry out image correction and feature point dense matchingon the image data to obtain three-dimensional coordinates of each pixel point in the image data in a geodetic coordinate system, perform gray scale identification on the image data based on the three-dimensional coordinates, extract waves and vegetation, calculates vertical wave height of the waves and area information of the vegetation, and store the vertical wave height and the area informationof the vegetation. According to the invention, surface space three-dimensional information can be obtained quickly for a long time in extreme weather and in a non-contact manner in an intertidal zone, and the problem of acquisition of multiple factors such as hydrology and ecology of the intertidal zone in various space-time scales can be further solved based on a remote sensing technology.
