New Who Guidelines for Community Noise

TL;DR: The Report considers noise sources and their measurement, adverse effects on health and noise management, whilst introducing a new set of recommendations and guideline values to take account of changes in knowledge and expectations over the past 20 years.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tactile perception : Finger friction, surface roughness and perceived coarseness

TL;DR: Finger friction measurements performed on a series of printing papers are evaluated to determine representativeness of a single individual as discussed by the authors, and results show occasionally large variations in friction co-...
Journal ArticleDOI

Adaptation and Recovery in Vibrotactile Perception

TL;DR: Adaptation and recovery were studied under conditions of constant stimulation of sinusoidal vibration at three different intensity levels: 40, 47, and 54 db above threshold and it was found that the perceived intensity decreases exponentially with increased time of stimulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Invariance of odor strength with sniff vigor: an olfactory analogue to size constancy.

TL;DR: There was an apparent contradiction between data and those on neural discharge rate that may be resolved by adopting an odor constancy model: When sniff intensity varies during the olfactory exploration of an odor source, information about the rate at which odorant molecules are established at the receptor site is combined with information about sniff vigor so that the resulting percept is of invariant odor strength.
