This study presents new Wilkinson power dividers using compact stepped-impedance structures and capacitive loads to achieve the required power splitting. This approach can produce additional transmission zeros and efiectively suppress the desired stopbands because shunt open stubs realize capacitive loads. This study proposes two equal-split dividers and two unequal-split dividers. For the flrst equal-split case, one shunt open stub forms the needed capacitor in each transmission path, creating one additional transmission zero in each path. To obtain one more transmission zero in each transmission path, the second Wilkinson power divider uses two shunt open stubs in each path to achieve the same capacitor value as the flrst divider. This study also tests unequal-split dividers with one and two transmission zeros in each path to conflrm that compact stepped-impedance transmission lines and shunt-to-ground capacitors can be utilized in unequal power division.

New Wilkinson Power Dividers Based on Compact Stepped-Impedance Transmission Lines and Shunt Open Stubs

In this paper, a four-element microstrip antenna array is presented. The array is composed of Wilkinson power dividers which act as feed network along with Dolph-Chebyshev distribution and four- identical patch antenna elements. The array elements are properly designed to have a compact size and constant gain against frequency. The simulated results show good agreement with the measured results for the fabricated antenna array. Measurement shows that the array has a peak gain of more than 12dBi with side-lobe level of i15dB at 6GHz. These characteristics make the antenna array suitable for UWB directional uses.

Ultra-wideband antenna array design for target detection

In this paper an ultra-wideband Wilkinson power divider (WPD) using binomial multi-section matching transformer is proposed. First an optimized single section WPD is designed and the output response of this power divider needs to be improved for ultra-wideband applications. Then a two and three section WPD using binomial transformer is presented that yields satisfactory input and output responses for ultra-wideband communications. This study shows the improvement of output responses due to the introduction of λ/4 multi-sections and isolation resistors. All simulations are carried out by finite integration based CST STUDIO 10 3D EM simulator. The proposed multi-section WPD can be used for 1:2 way equal power division (3 dB) in ultra-wideband range (3.1–10.6 GHz).

Design of an ultra-wideband Wilkinson power divider

We propose a technique with clear guidelines to design a compact planar Wilkinson power divider (WPD) for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The design procedure is accomplished by replacing the uniform transmission lines in each arm of the conventional power divider with varying-impedance proflles governed by a truncated Fourier series. Such non-uniform transmission lines (NTLs) are obtained through the even mode analysis, whereas three isolation resistors are optimized in the odd mode circuit to achieve proper isolation and output ports matching over the frequency range of interest. For veriflcation purposes, an in-phase equal split WPD is designed, simulated, and measured. Simulation and measurement results show that the input and output ports matching as well as the isolation are below i10dB, whereas the transmission parameters are in the range of (i3:2dB, i4:2dB) across the 3.1GHz{10.6GHz band.

Non-Uniform Transmission Line Ultra-Wideband Wilkinson Power Divider

An ultra-wideband (UWB) modified 3-way Bagley polygon power divider (BPD) that operates over a frequency range of 2–16 GHz is presented. To achieve the UWB operation, the conventional quarter-wave transformers in the BPD are substituted by two tapered line transformers. For verification purposes, the proposed divider is simulated, fabricated, and measured. The agreement between the full-wave simulation results and the measurement ones validates the design procedure.

Analysis and Design of Ultra-Wideband 3-Way Bagley Power Divider Using Tapered Lines Transformers

A modified UWB power divider formed by implementing one delta stub on each branch is proposed. Delta stub is used as a substitution of radial stub that can present wideband characteristic. The proposed structure makes branch line shorter and stub’s size smaller than those of similar works based on UWB power divider using radial stub. It also achieves a compact size of 18 mm by 13 mm. The simulation and measurement results of the developed divider are presented and shown good agreement in the UWB range.
