Journal ArticleDOI

The conversion of procyanidins and prodelphinidins to cyanidin and delphinidin

TL;DR: In this article, a standard method of analysis of proanthocyanidins based on use of an n-BuOH-HCl-FeIII mixture is given, and the ratio of absorbance maxima of the cyanidin (550 nm) produced to that near 280 nm for the original procyanidin polymer solution was ∼ 3.5.
Journal ArticleDOI

Maysin, a Flavone Glycoside from Corn Silks with Antibiotic Activity Toward Corn Earworm

TL;DR: Maysin (rhamnosyl-6-C-(4-ketofucosyl)-5,7,3′, 4′ tetrahydroxyflavone (I), isolated from corn silks of the exotic strain Zapalote Chico, has been shown to severely retard the growth of Heliothis zea (Boddie) when incorporated into the insect's diet as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Growth inhibitors in tomato (Lycopersicon) to tomato fruitworm (Heliothis zea).

TL;DR: Several compounds that retard the larval growth of the tomato fruitworm,Heliothis zea (Boddie), have been isolated and identified from tomato leaves and a new caffeyl derivative of an aldaric acid (IV) is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Condensed tannin, an antibiotic chemical from Gossypium hirsutum

TL;DR: Antibiotic activity against Heliothis virescens was found in flower buds of Gossypium hirsutum, experimental stock Texas 254 and the condensed tannin at 0.2% in the diet retarded larval growth by 84%.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of cotton condensed tannin on feeding and digestion in the cotton pest, Heliothis zea

TL;DR: Larvae feeding on tannin-treated diet exhibited both decreased protease and invertase activities in the midgut caecal wall, as well as lowered total protein and sugar levels in the haemolymph as compared to controls, which had no effect on assilimation and efficiency of conversion of digested matter into animal biomass.
