Journal ArticleDOI

On asymptotically correct Timoshenko-like anisotropic beam theory

TL;DR: In this article, a finite element cross-sectional beam analysis capable of capturing transverse shear effects is presented, which uses the variational-asymptotic method and can handle beams of general crosssectional shape and arbitrary anisotropic material.

Assessment of Beam Modeling Methods for Rotor Blade Applications

TL;DR: The goal of this paper is to objectively assess theories within a common framework and it is hoped that this will be a first step toward the clearly desirable situation in which an engineer can safely and easily choose a composite beam theory based on the type of application and specific needs for fidelity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Asymptotic treatment of the trapeze effect in finite element cross-sectional analysis of composite beams

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-linear numerical cross-sectional analysis is presented, based on the variational-asymptotic method and capable of treating cross sections of arbitrary geometry and generally anisotropic material.
Journal ArticleDOI

Obliqueness effects in asymptotic cross-sectional analysis of composite beams

TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived cross-sectional stiffness properties for general composite beams, along with the interior solution for warping, and derived the 3D strain field for the corresponding nonorthogonal curvilinear set of coordinates which describe the undeformed and the deformed geometry of the beam.
