The final section, Digital History is History, has two contributions focusing more on the details of research theory, with Synthia Sydnor exploring the nature of sport, and Fiona McLachlan and Douglas Booth discussing how sport historians engage with the Internet and, in particular, swimming. McLachlan and Booth conclude sport history “is now firmly enmeshed in an internet era,” and it “is forcing historians to ask new questions about their discipline and its practices” (p. 241). This is an effective final chapter to the book’s roll of contributions. Osmond and Phillips state their intended audience is sport historians, and scholars of sports studies, the sociology of sport, and the digital era. This wide-ranging title satisfies those aims and provides a thoughtful exploration of the strengths and weaknesses of online sport history, which is especially valuable for those reluctant to embrace the digital age.

Livestreaming from the bedroom: Performing intimacy through domestic space on Twitch:

Esports is a rapidly growing industry. However, the unidentifiable governance structure of the industry has contributed to a number of integrity-eroding activities. By exploring esports stakeholder dynamics, this paper answers the question, “Is the esports governance model sustainable?” Data were sourced from documentation, focus groups (N = 3) and semi-structured interviews (N = 6). Thematic analysis was conducted using Nvivo. The findings suggest that (1) the current esports governance framework features some attributes of the “lead organisation-governed network”, with the power residing mainly in game publishers; (2) the rising power of other stakeholders in the network seeking to address integrity issues has caused fragmentation of the esports governance framework; (3) esports governance is evolving towards a network administration organisation (NAO) model. Such evolution has a few challenges—most notably, the compliance of game publishers. Given the social impact of the integrity issues, governments should play a main role in facilitating a NAO model.

To date, scholars of digital labour have not turned sufficient attention to online sex work, which constitutes a sizeable portion of contemporary web-based labour. In particular, the rise of unpaid amateur pornography, circulated through YouTube-style tube sites, points toward an important shift in how adult content is being produced and distributed in digital spaces. This shift also raises questions about the cultural narratives that surround sexual labour. This article explores the labour politics that underlie the unpaid work of do-it-yourself (DIY) porn performers who are populating highly lucrative tube sites with hundreds of thousands of amateur videos.
