The method of preparing granulated activated alumina consists in that alumina trihydrate is decomposed by bringing it in contact with a bed of a solid heat carrier having the temperature of 350° to 600° C., the contact time being from 0.05 to 0.5 second, to obtain a product of decomposition in the form of amorphous aluminium hydroxide. Said decomposition product is mixed with water into a suspension having the concentration of 100-500 g/liter, calculating with reference to aluminium oxide, and hydrated at a temperature of 20°-100° C. and the pH of 5 to 12 for 0.5 to 10 hours. The hydrated decomposition product is then treated with an acid, that can form water-soluble basic salts of aluminium, at a temperature of 20° to 150° C., granulated, dried at a temperature of 20° to 150° C., and calcined at a temperature of 400° to 600° C. The granulated activated alumina can be used as an adsorbing material, as a catalyst, or a support for active components in chemical and petrochemical industry.

Le procede faisant l'objet de l'invention est du type comprenant une decomposition d'alumine trihydratee a chaud, un melange du produit de decomposition obtenu avec de l'eau, une hydratation et une mise en granules, dudit melange, un sechage desdits granules a une temperature de 20 a 150 degres C et une calcination a une temperature de 400 a 600 degres C et est caracterise en ce que l'on effectue la decomposition de l'alumine trihydratee en la maintenant en contact avec un lit de caloporteur solide a une temperature de 350 a 600 degres C, le temps de contact etant de 0,05 a 0,5 seconde, en obtenant ainsi un produit de decomposition sous forme d'hydroxyde d'aluminium amorphe, en ce que l'on effectue le melange dudit produit de decomposition avec l'eau jusqu'a une concentration de 100 a 500 g/l, calculee en alumine, apres quoi on effectue l'hydratation dudit produit de decomposition a une temperature de 20 a 100 degres C et a un pH de 5 a 12 pendant 0,5 a 10 heures, et qu'avant ladite mise en granules on traite le produit de decomposition hydrate a une temperature de 20 a 150 degres C par un acide capable de fournir des sels basiques hydrosolubles d'aluminium. L'alumine active granulee trouve notamment des applications comme adsorbant, comme catalyseur ou comme support de reactif dans l'industrie chimique et dans le raffinage du petrole.
