TL;DR: Several synthetic techniques for metal-free phthalocyanines (Pc) and d-and f-metal phTHCM starting from different precursors (phthalonitrile, urea and phthalic anhydride, phthalimide, etc.) are reviewed as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Several synthetic techniques for metal-free phthalocyanines (Pc) and d- and f-metal phthalocyaninates (“PcM”) starting from different precursors (phthalonitrile, urea and phthalic anhydride, phthalimide, phthalic acid, etc.) are reviewed. Conventional methods are presented, as well as some less well-known techniques such as those using ultrasound, laser, microwaves, or nuclear transformation. Special attention is paid to phthalocyanine formation at relatively low temperatures (0–60 °C). Experimental results on Pc formation using UV-irradiation of the reaction system are presented.

TL;DR: A review of recent contributions to the chemistry of macrocyclic metal complexes and ligands can be found in this paper, where aza-macrocycles having 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2′-bipyridine groups and pendants arms are reviewed.
Abstract: Recent contributions to the chemistry of macrocyclic metal complexes and ligands are reviewed. The compounds reviewed have the following structural features: aza-macrocycles having 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2′-bipyridine groups and pendants arms; highly aromatic aza-macrocycles with phthalocyanine and porphyrin units incorporating pendant arms; aliphatic aza-macrocycles with pendant arms and/or polynucleating aza-macrocycles. Several of their chemical properties are critically reviewed but the emphasis is on structural and synthetic details.

TL;DR: In this article, the synthesis of non-substituted metal phthalocyaninates starting from phthalonitrile in various alcohols in presence of chemically activated Rieke zinc and magnesium in three forms (ordinary magnesium turnings, activated rieke magnesium and complex Mg(anthracene) · 3THF) at low temperatures (20-50°C) is described.
Abstract: Synthesis of non-substituted metal phthalocyaninates starting from phthalonitrile in various alcohols in presence of chemically activated Rieke zinc and magnesium in three forms (ordinary magnesium turnings, activated Rieke magnesium and complex Mg(anthracene) · 3THF) at low temperatures (20–50°C) is described. It is shown that the presence of active elemental metal causes a rapid PcM formation in low-weight alcohols.
