An arrangement for use in a utility meter having a base configured to be mounted to a structure and a component module adapted to be releasably secured to the base inhibits unauthorized removal of the component module from the base. The arrangement includes a mounting fastener assembly disposed on the component module and a closure element. The mounting fastener assembly has an access opening configured to receive a mounting fastener and a mounting opening configured to allow a portion of the mounting fastener to extend therethrough and into the base. The mounting fastener includes a portion configured to be retained by the base. The closure element is pivotally attached to the component module and is movable into a first position wherein the closure element restricts the access opening and into a second position wherein the access opening is accessible.

An electrical meter arrangement 10 comprises means operable to meter an amount of electrical energy consumed 12 and an amount of electrical energy generated 14 at a premises and in which the said means is sealed in a single enclosure 13. Two meter circuits 12, 14 may be used to measure the energy consumed and generated, respectively. The meter arrangement 10 may be connected between a premises and an electricity distribution network 11. Separate data relating to energy consumption and generation may be communicated to a central control unit to calculate appropriate billing taking into account the relevant tariff charges for the said data. The data may be communicated optically, by radio or by smart card. The meter arrangement may include one or more internal switches 32, 34 operated by a control unit to reconfigure the meter connections with respect to the network and a local generator.

The locking device has a locking element (6) for locking the meter on the support platform (3) that is movable in a guide on the meter into an opening (14) on the platform and sealable in the engaged position. The locking element is spring-loaded and automatically latches in the platform opening in the operating position of the current meter.

A transparent cover is fitted over a consumption meter, such as an electricity meter, to protect it against unauthorized interference or betray tampering. The cover (9, 19) cooperates with the supporting surface (2) on which the meter is mounted to enclose the meter against mechanical access, but permits the meter to be read. An anchor member (10) is secured to said supporting surface within the enclosure and penetrates the cover. The protruding end has a tamper-proof seal applied to it.

A box for protecting an electric meter or similar apparatus against fraud, theft and the like comprises a hollow body (1) provided with an aperture (2) and a cover (3) adapted to close the aperture (2) of the body (1). The cover (3) carries a locking mechanism (29) operable by a key (33) and provided with a locking member (34) rotatable with respect to cover (3) between a locked position in which the member (34) engages retainers (37) of the body (1) and a release position. The locking mechanism (31) allows removal of the key (33) when the locking member (34) is in the locked position and unremovably retains the key (33) when the locking member (34) is in the release position. The box comprises spring loaded bolt means (43) for irreversibly maintaining the locking member (34) in the locked position when the locking member (34) and the retainers (37) are mutually engaged.
