Abstract: The central role of ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase (RuBPCase) in the photosynthetic process makes genetic manipulation of amounts of this enzyme particularly desirable, and the location of its genetic control of fundamental importance. In order to determine this location in wheat (Triticum aestivum) RuBPCase amounts per cell were measured in aneuploids of the cultivar Chinese Spring using colorimetric quantification following polyacrylamide tube gel electrophoresis. In this way homoeologous chromosome group 4 was identified as the site of major control of RuBPCase levels in leaves of breadwheat.
