TL;DR: The determination of the location of the genes controlling cellular RuBPCase amount is of considerable importance if genetic manipulation to increase the potential for photosynthesis is to be possible.
Abstract: Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (EC 4.1.1.39) (RuBPCase) is the most abundant chloroplast stromal enzyme and there is evidence that levels of this enzyme can limit the rate of photosynthesis (Hesketh et al., 1983). The determination of the location of the genes controlling cellular RuBPCase amount is therefore of considerable importance if genetic manipulation to increase the potential for photosynthesis is to be possible.
