A process is described wherein oversprayed organic coatings are controlled in an aqueous spray booth system by adding to the water spray supply an effective amount of a mixture of (1) a long chain surface active nitrogen derivative and (2) at least one member selected from the class of polyvalent water soluble or dispersible metal salts, nonionic high molecular weight polymers, anionic high molecular weight polymers, or a blend of nonionic and anionic high molecular weight polymers. The mixture is added to the water in the proportions of from about 0.05% by weight to 2% by weight of the solution. The method, which works with solvent-borne coatings and water-borne coatings results in rendering the organic coatings non-sticky, non-tacky and separable as a readily handled sludge.

Process of controlling organic coatings in aqueous spray booth systems

A composition for trapping and removing paint from a paint spray booth characterized by an aqueous solution-suspension containing at least 4 percent by weight of a water softener, a concentration within the range of 4-25 percent by weight of a colloid that will pick up moisture and swell and remain stable in highly alkaline solutions: a concentration within the range of 1-8 percent by weight of a surfactant; and a concentration within the range of 5-50 percent by weight of an alkaline material that is either an alkali metal hydroxyide or an alkali metal metasilicate. The composition preferably also includes a concentration within the range of 0.1-3 percent by volume of a defoamer. Specific and critical examples of the respective water softener, colloid, surfactant and defoamer are disclosed, as is the optimum concentration of the ingredients. Also disclosed are improved embodiments having additional additives incorporated thereinto for specific purposes with specific types of paints.

Described is a process for the purification of gaseous effluent of industrial processes by providing a gas containing at least a hydrocarbon solvent and/or an oxygenated solvent and passing said gas into a gas absorbing means comprised of a nonreactive liquid solvent for said gas, said liquid solvent being liquid and substantially nonvolatile at ambient temperatures and pressures. Preferably, the liquid absorbing solvent is reclaimed by separating the gaseous effluent therefrom. The gaseous effluent is preferably that resulting from the application of paint.

Agent used in treating wet spray booth and method of treatment of said booth

Method for cleaning the floor and sub-floor region of a paint spray booth by flooding with a cleaning solution and allowing the cleaning solution to soak on the various structures for a preselected period of time. The drains, scrubber section, and conveyor openings of the floor and sub-floor region must be blocked off to prevent the cleaning solution from exiting the booth. This method does not require the manual cleaning of the floor and sub-floor region thereby saving labor costs.

Cleaning arrangement and method for paint spray booth

Disclosed are compositions useful as deflocculants in recirculated aqueous systems utilized in the removal of paint sprays from air. These compositions comprise (a) a first component selected from water soluble salts of polyaminopolycarboxylic acids; water soluble salts of nitrilotriacetic acid; and mixtures thereof; (b) a second component selected from triethanolamine; water soluble salts of oxalic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid; gluconic acid and glucoheptonic acid; and mixtures thereof; and (c) a third component selected from sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and mixtures thereof. Water systems containing small amounts of these compositions have a capacity of dissolving and dispersing large quantities of paint wastes.
