An object of the present invention is to provide a media player system. Certain aspects of the A media player system relates docking station (178) that allows a media player (174) to communicate with other media devices. Another aspect of the media player system relates to a wireless media player system that includes one or more media devices that can receive (404A) wirelessly connecting the hand held media player and the information that can send information over a wireless connection (406). Another aspect of the media player system pertains to a method of connecting a hand held media player to another device wirelessly. The method includes selecting a media item on the hand held media player, selecting one or more remote recipients on the hand held media player, locally the media item to the hand held media player, said wirelessly It comprises transmitting the selected remote recipients. Another aspect of the media player system relates handheld music player that includes a transmitter for transmitting information over a wireless connection. Wherein the transmitter is configured to at least transmit a continuous music feed a receiver capable of receiving information from the transmitter in the wireless connection to one or more personal tuning devices including, respectively.

Media player system

Improved techniques to control utilization of accessory devices with electronic devices are disclosed. The improved techniques can use cryptographic approaches to authenticate electronic devices, namely, electronic devices that interconnect and communicate with one another. One aspect pertains to techniques for authenticating an electronic device, such as an accessory device. Another aspect pertains to provisioning software features (e.g., functions) by or for an electronic device (e.g., a host device). Different electronic devices can, for example, be provisioned differently depending on different degrees or levels of authentication, or depending on manufacturer or product basis. Still another aspect pertains to using an accessory (or adapter) to convert a peripheral device (e.g., USB device) into a host device (e.g., USB host). The improved techniques are particularly well suited for electronic devices, such as media devices, that can receive accessory devices. One example of a media device is a media player, such as a hand-held media player (e.g., music player), that can present (e.g., play) media items (or media assets).

Accessory authentication for electronic devices

A novel personal electronic device includes a processor having first (embedded) and second (non-embedded) processors including associated operating systems and functions. In one aspect, the first processor performs relatively limited functions, while the second processor performs relatively broader functions under control of the first processor. Often the second processor requires more power than the first processor and is selectively operated by the first processor to minimize overall power consumption. Protocols for functions to be performed by the second processor may be provided directly to the second processor and processed by the second processor. In another aspect, a display controller is designed to interface with both processors. In another aspect, the operating systems work with one another. In another aspect, the first processor employs a thermal control program. Advantages of the invention include a broad array of functions performed by a relatively small personal electronics device.

Novel personal electronics device

An input device is disclosed. The input device includes a movable touch-sensitive track pad capable of detecting an object in close proximity thereto so as to generate a tracking control signal. The input device also includes a movement indicator capable of detecting the movements of the movable track pad so as to generate one or more other control signals (e.g., button signals). The control signals can be used to perform actions in an electronic device operatively coupled to the input device.

The object of the invention is a method for controlling the power saving properties in a terminal, which utilizes cellular phone technology and short range radio frequency wireless communication features in order to increase the operative life of the batteries, and a terminal utilizing the method. In the method of the invention the activity state of the short range wireless communication utilization in the terminal determines the level of the short range wireless communication power save mode.

In one embodiment, the handheld electronic device is approximately the size of a cellular telephone, and includes a large touchscreen Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), covering an area which would normally be used for both the display and keypad on a cellular telephone. In one embodiment the device is approximately the size of a cellular telephone, and includes a large touchscreen LCD, that spans a significant portion of the length and width of the device, for example, covering an area which would normally be used for both the display and keypad on a cellular telephone. In one embodiment, the cellular telephone display and UI are selected from one of a plurality of cellular telephone displays images and UIs, so that a user familiar with one brand or model of cellular telephone can have that image and UI to utilize with the device.
