Journal ArticleDOI

Specific heat of concentrated kondo systems: (La, Ce)Al2 and CeAl2

TL;DR: In this paper, specific heat measurements of (La1−xCeghazi x )Al2 samples, with 1.5 a/o≦x≦100 a/O, performed in magnetic fields of up to 5 T between 0.3 and 10 K, are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antiferromagnetic ordering between unstable 4f shells in CeAl2

TL;DR: In this paper, the experimental situation of the unusual compound CeAl2 based on inelastic neutron scattering and specific heat measurements is reviewed and it is argued that this dynamic interaction is due to the Kondo effect rather than to valence fluctuations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low temperature properties of (La, Nd)Sn3 alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, specific heat and neutron scattering results revealed the scheme of crystal field (CF) levels of Nd3+ and showed that Nd impurities in LaSn3 exist as stable trivalent ions, in contrast to all other light rare earths.
Journal ArticleDOI

Specific heat of CeAl2 in high magnetic fields

TL;DR: In this article, specific heat measurements on CeAl 2 showed that the Kondo effect is of comparable (k B k K ) to the Ce-Ce interactions which yield magnetic order below T N ⋍ 4 K.
Journal ArticleDOI

Specific heat of a Kondo system showing magnetic order

TL;DR: In this article, specific heat measurements of (La 1−xCex)Al2 samples in magnetic fields are interpreted as showing the competition between bulk magnetism, here antiferromagnetic order, and the local magnetic phenomenon of the Kondo effect, the latter tending to “turn off” the magnetic moments of the Ce ions at T → O.
