This paper presents a new approach to create 3D visualisation from discrete simulation results. This approach connects discrete event simulation directly to 3D animation with its novel methods that analyze and convert discrete simulation results into animation events to trigger 3D animation. In addition, it constructs a 3D animation framework for the visualization of discrete simulation results. This framework supports the reuse of both the existing 3D animation objects and behaviour components, and allows the rapid development of new 3D animation objects by users with no special knowledge in computer graphics. This approach has been implemented with the software component technology. As an application in virtual manufacturing, visualizations of an electronic assembly factory are also provided in the paper to demonstrate the performance of this new approach.

3D visualization of discrete event simulation and its applications in virtual manufacturing

This tutorial paper presents an introduction to the application of hybrid computation and optimization to the direct design of linear dynamic circuits using a simple optimization technique that does not require sophisticated computer programming. The chief merit of such simple techniques is that the user can easily verify the execution by stepping through the program in a manner that permits him to mentally check the logical decisions implemented by the optimization algorithm. This type of operation is economically feasible because of the development of a hybrid computer system which permits these techniques to be demonstrated at minimum capital cost.

High-speed automated identification and design of physical systems using hybrid computer optimization techniques

A method for estimating parameters of a linear control system is proposed. The estimation is based only on the early part of the step function response. A power series approximation is used, and it is shown that for a second-order system the form of the early response is the same, regardless of whether the system is overdamped underdamped, or critically damped. With the use of precise; noise-free data typical results for an underdamped second-order system gave parameter estimates within 0.1 to 11 percent in a time equal to about 10 percent of the time to the first peak of the response. Similar results for an overdamped second-order system provided parameter estimates within 0.3 to 2 percent in a time equal to about 1 percent of the longer time constant and 13 percent of the shorter time constant. >
