Any database, no matter how complex, can be represented as a set of binary-relationships. Consequently, a structure which can store such binary-relationships is logically sufficient as the storage mechanism for a general purpose database management system. For certain applications, the advantages of using such a structure would appear to outweigh the disadvantages. Surprisingly, however, very few systems have been built which use a binary-relational storage structure. The main reason would appear to be the difficulty of implementing such structures efficiently.

Computer graphics, interactive techniques, and image processing are among the developments in the constantly evolving computer science field that impact the potential user ever more rapidly. This bibliography attempts to compile all articles, books, conference papers, and technical reports about computer graphics and man-machine interaction that have been published in English from 1970 to 1975. Because the literature pertaining to computer graphics and man-machine interaction is immense, this bibliography will no doubt be incomplete. Suggestions and contributions for future supplements to the bibliography should be sent to the compiler.

To improve the readability of programs over existing techniques, a new program representation termed GREENPRINT has been developed and is discussed in this paper. GREENPRINTs (the name taken from the phosphor fluorescence of certain display terminals and paralleling the term blueprints) are tree-structured diagrams together with source code statements that represent the control structure of programs. Discussed in this paper are the diagramming conventions, control flow methodology, presentation graphics, and practical experience with GREENPRINTs.

Interactive Graphics in Data Processing

An experimental on-line network design system is proposed. Called DESIGNPAD, it consists of a small computer with graphic display equipment connected to a time-sharing computer and includes the necessary programming support for the equipment.

The system is designed to accept problems covering a broad spectrum of applications in the form of labeled block diagrams. The input/output medium, the man-machine interface, and the supporting data structures, particularly the cellular structure, are discussed.
