Journal ArticleDOI

A shock tube study of vibrational relaxation in pure CO2 and mixtures of CO2 with the inert gases, nitrogen, deuterium and hydrogen

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the relaxation times of CO2 in an atmosphere of N2, Ne, He, D2 and H2 and showed that during the approach to equilibrium the relaxation time changes in the way to be expected from the change in the translational temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study of vibrational-rotational energy exchange in a shock tube

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the probability for deactivating the bending mode of CO2 by H2, or D2 is in good accord with the theoretical calculations of Sharma (I969) at room temperature, but that the changes of probability with temperature are completely at variance with those calculated (Simpson & Chandler I970).
