Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of a major co-receptor for primary isolates of HIV-1

TL;DR: The principal cofactor for entry mediated by the envelope glycoproteins of primary macrophage-tropic strains of HIV-1 is CC-CKR-5, a receptor for the β-chemokines RANTES, Mip-1α and MIP-1β.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Amino Terminus of Human CCR5 Is Required for Its Function as a Receptor for Diverse Human and Simian Immunodeficiency Virus Envelope Glycoproteins

TL;DR: Binding of several anti-CCR5 monoclonal antibodies to cell lines and primary cells that express this chemokine receptor found that whereas all antibodies bound to CCR5-transfected 293T cells, several did not bind to PBMC, suggesting that CCR 5 undergoes cell type specific structural modifications which may affect interaction with different HIV and SIV envelope glycoproteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Natural resistance to HIV
