Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of intrapartum chemoprophylaxis on the vertical transmission of group B streptococci
TL;DR: Intrapartum chemoprophylaxis breaks the cycle of GBS transmission at birth and may be useful in preventing early onset GBS disease, but is unlikely to affect late onset infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Group B streptococcal colonisation and the outcome of pregnancy
TL;DR: Vaginal colonisation of pregnant women with group B streptococci (GBS) was not related to age, parity or blood group, but there were marked differences between racial groups, Asians having a low colonisation rate and Negroes a high rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is group B streptococcal screening during pregnancy justified
TL;DR: Although accurate prediction of intrapartum GBS carriage is possible, mass screening for GBS in pregnancy is unlikely to be cost‐effective in those countries with a low incidence of neonatal GBS sepsis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology of group B streptococci: one year's experience in an obstetric and special care baby unit.
C. S. F. Easmon,M. J. G. Hastings,Angela Blowers,Barbara Bloxham,Jane Deeley,R. Marwood,R. P. A. Rivers,Jackie Stringer +7 more
TL;DR: Nosocomial transmission can play an important part in GBS epidemiology, but can be minimized by attention to infection control procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fatal late-onset group B streptococcal sepsis on a special care baby unit
TL;DR: Serotyping and phage typing results strongly suggested late acquisition of the organism from the mother in a 3-week-old preterm baby who died despite therapy with penicillin, granulocyte transfusions and fresh frozen plasma.
