In recent times it is seen that the climatic and weather conditions not only in India but also in other countries have become uncertain and unpredictable, which may have devastating effects on the agriculture production. India being an agricultural country, most of the farmers largely rely on monsoons and agricultural production is weather dependent. The environmental factors like temperature, humidity, moisture, precipitation and many other parameters keep on changing rapidly and unpredictably. This unpredictable nature, variability of climatic or weather conditions makes the life of farmers quite miserable as they are unable to take proper decisions at the right time. Thus, it is the need of the hour to have a real-time, local weather station which would keep the farmers informed well in advance about the prevailing weather conditions so that they can take appropriate decisions at the right time and save their crops from loss. Precision Agriculture (PA) is an art of using the latest available technologies in the agriculture domain so as to make traditional agriculture more profitable and sustainable while reducing the wastage of resources. The penetration of internet into India is very deep and very fast, especially due to the Jio mania by Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited last year, high speed internet is now possible even in rural areas. This paper proposes a IoT based real-time local weather station for PA, that would provide farmers a means of automizing their agricultural practices (irrigation, fertilization, harvesting) at the right time. The proposed system would also aid the farmers to carry out the agricultural tasks on real-time bases, which in turn helps them to use the agricultural resources in efficient way and at the time when needed by the crops. The proposed weather system is a small step towards the development of PA system considering the Indian scenarios.

IoT Based Low-cost Weather Station and Monitoring System for Precision Agriculture in India

A novel system to monitor environmental parameters using multilevel IOT architecture is proposed. The proposed system will monitor the changes of environmental parameters in Hyderabad region. The proposed instrumentation operates in II tier architecture in IOT. The Proposed System consists of different sensors grouped into 5 sensor nodes which are invoked by switches in the gateway or from the webpage. The sensors acquire the data and sent to a slave controller (PIC). In turn the slave controller sends the acquired data to Master controller (Raspberry pi). The Master acts as a Gateway between sensor nodes and the cloud. The data is pushed by Master onto the cloud and displayed as webpage using HTTP. The data is also received in the form of SMS through GSM. Using the proposed system few experiments were conducted on different environment and altitude. The obtained results were compared with a standard weather data. It was found that the acquired data from the system was very closer to standard weather data obtained from internet. The experiments were conducted for 15 days in June 2018 and changes in climatic conditions of Hyderabad region were studied and information was handed over to local farmers in terms of indicators which can be used as an assist to decide which crop (cotton, jowar, redgram) has to be cultivated/reaped.

Real Time Monitoring of Environmental Parameters Using IOT

Low cost embedded weather station with intelligent system

In this paper a new approach to utilize technology in a practical and meaningful manner within a smart weather station system is presented. This system is primary intended for use in agriculture and meteorological stations, but its application is not limited here. Weather parameters observing plays an important role in human live, so the observing, collecting and storing of information about the temporal dynamics of weather changes is very important. The primary goal is to design a low cost smart system for storing data obtained by measuring various physical parameters in the atmosphere without human involvement. Realized system use Internet of Things technology to storage measured results, and allows the user to access the results anytime and anywhere. In this research Internet of Things is used as technology for storing measured data, because this technology is an advanced and efficient solution for connecting the things to the Internet and to connect the entire world of things in a network. The proposed smart weather station system is based on the following steps: direct environment sensing, measuring and storing data and then allowing user to customize the settings. This research will present the design and implementation of a practical smart weather station system, which can be further extended. The system is based on: group of embedded sensors, Peripheral Interface Microcontroller (PIC) microcontroller as a core and server system and wireless internet using Global System for Mobile Telecommunications (GSM) module with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) as a communication protocol.

A smart weather station based on sensor technology

In this paper, a low cost, reliable and deployable solar power weather monitor system for all climate condition is build up. The online monitoring system using sensors gather weather condition and transmit to the system through Bluetooth. The Bluetooth system can be readily accessible to follow real-time weather changes and monitoring the device by using a DC supply or battery. In our proposed model, the solar system automatically monitors the weather conditions and the monitored information's is fed to Arduino. The Arduino microcontroller board is helping to control the temperature, humidity values and also used to monitor the voltage and current values of the solar panel. The solar is continuously providing the voltage to the consumer with different climate conditions. The different climate changes values are stored by Bluetooth device.

Automatic Weather Monitoring Analysis for Renewable Energy System

In this paper we have proposed a model which acts as a weather station and a rain detector and is solely solar powered. The model is designed in such a way that it can be used remotely and the readings are displayed on a user friendly LCD display and are displayed as digital numeric values. The weather station includes a remote station for monitoring the weather powered by a solar panel, and a base station to display data. The remote station includes sensors to measure temperature, relative humidity, rain and solar radiation level. The goal in system design is optimizing cost and power.
