Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with three other methods for the detection of Trichinella spiralis infections in pigs
F. van Knapen,J.H. Franchimont,E.J. Ruitenberg,B. Baldelli,Jack Bradley,T.E. Gibson,C. Gottal,S.A. Henriksen,G. Göhler,N. Skovgaard,C. Soulé,S.M. Taylor +11 more
TL;DR: It was concluded that not enough evidence was available to suggest ELISA as an alternative to the direct methods for slaughterhouse control and both the ELISA and the immunofluorescence technique may prove to be applicable for epidemiological surveys.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of four methods for early detection of experimental Trichinella spiralis infections in pigs.
F. van Knapen,J.H. Franchimont,E.J. Ruitenberg,P. Andre,B. Baldelli,T.E. Gibson,C. Gottal,S.A. Henriksen,G. Kohler,O. Roneus,N. Skovgaard,C. Soulé,K.L. Strickland,S.M. Taylor +13 more
TL;DR: Four methods employed in the diagnosis of experimental porcine trichinellosis were compared by eleven laboratories in the countries of the European Economic Community and Sweden and ELISA micro-assay was the most sensitive procedure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of three methods for detection of prolonged experimental trichinellosis in pigs.
F. van Knapen,J.H. Franchimont,E.J. Ruitenberg,P. Andre,B. Baldelli,T.E. Gibson,S.A. Henriksen,G. Kohler,O. Roneus,N. Skovgaard,C. Soulé,K.L. Strickland,S.M. Taylor,D.U. Thomsen,F. Wolff +14 more
TL;DR: It was concluded that both micro and macro ELISA can be used with confidence for the detection of low grade, longstanding experimental T. spiralis infections in swine.
Journal Article
EU experimental study on wild boar trichinellosis
Knapen F van,Franchimont Jh,Garate T,Henriksen Sa,Martinez-Fernandez A,Pfeiffer G,Ring C,C. Soulé,Voigt Wp,Lpm,diverse veterinaire instituten in Spanje,Denemarken,Duitsland en Frankrijk +12 more
TL;DR: From January 1994 onwards the Council Directive 92/45 EEC concerning the examination of wild game meat for trichinellosis is valid and trichinoscopy and pool sample digestion methods meant for pork examination could equally well be used for control of wild boar meat.
