Performance assessment of distance protection fed by capacitor voltage transformer with electronic ferro-resonance suppression circuit

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the performance of CVT with electronic ferro-resonance suppression circuit (FSC) for different fault, loading and SIR conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Limitations of Angle-Based Faulty Line Identification Logic in Series-Compensated Parallel Transmission Lines

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the performance of the angle-based logic by time-domain simulation studies with different compensation levels, fault location, and in-feed conditions for the capacitor located at one end of the line.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Cross Country Faults - Protection Challenges and Improvements

C Venkatesh, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the basic principles of phase selection for single-location faults and insights into the limitations of detecting the faulted phase during cross-country faults are provided, and the improved phase selection logic is introduced to handle cross country fault scenarios, which provides correct detection of faulted phases using local information.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Faulty line identification by distance relay in series-compensated parallel transmission lines

TL;DR: In this article, the authors highlight the problem of distance relay maloperation when conventional ECBS is used to classify healthy and faulty lines in series compensated parallel transmission lines (SCPTL), which may result in tripping of both lines depending upon the fault location.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

An open source framework for IEC 61850 based protection and automation schemes

TL;DR: An IEC 61850 based laboratory prototype is developed using royalty free and free and open source software (FOSS) for modeling the power system and the distance relay and a complex and vital protection scheme known as local breaker backup (LBB) which has been recently integrated into a centralized bus bar protection scheme is implemented and tested.
