Journal ArticleDOI
Insulin stimulates mitochondrial fusion and function in cardiomyocytes via the Akt-mTOR-NFκB-Opa-1 signaling pathway
Valentina Parra,Valentina Parra,Hugo Verdejo,Hugo Verdejo,Myriam Iglewski,Andrea del Campo,Rodrigo Troncoso,Deborah Jones,Yi Zhu,Jovan Kuzmicic,Christian Pennanen,Camila López-Crisosto,Fabián Jaña,Jorge Ferreira,Eduard Noguera,Mario Chiong,David A. Bernlohr,Amira Klip,Joseph A. Hill,Beverly A. Rothermel,Evan Dale Abel,Antonio Zorzano,Sergio Lavandero,Sergio Lavandero +23 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated for the first time in knowledge that insulin acutely regulates mitochondrial metabolism in cardiomyocytes through a mechanism that depends on increased mitochondrial fusion, Opa-1, and the Akt-mTOR-NFκB pathway.
OtherDOI
Calcium Transport and Signaling in Mitochondria.
Roberto Bravo-Sagua,Valentina Parra,Camila López-Crisosto,Paula Díaz,Andrew F. G. Quest,Sergio Lavandero,Sergio Lavandero +6 more
TL;DR: The mechanisms that coordinate mitochondrial and Ca2+ responses and how they affect human health are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondrial fission is required for cardiomyocyte hypertrophy mediated by a Ca2+-calcineurin signaling pathway.
Christian Pennanen,Valentina Parra,Valentina Parra,Camila López-Crisosto,Pablo E. Morales,Andrea del Campo,Tomás Gutierrez,Pablo Rivera-Mejías,Jovan Kuzmicic,Mario Chiong,Antonio Zorzano,Beverly A. Rothermel,Sergio Lavandero,Sergio Lavandero +13 more
TL;DR: Treatment of cultured neonatal rat cardiomyocytes with the hypertrophic agonist norepinephrine promotes mitochondrial fission and promotes a decrease in mitochondrial mean volume and an increase in the relative number of mitochondria per cell and the importance of mitochondrial dynamics in the development ofCardiomyocyte hypertrophy and metabolic remodeling is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sarcoplasmic reticulum-mitochondria communication in cardiovascular pathophysiology
Camila López-Crisosto,Christian Pennanen,César Vásquez-Trincado,Pablo E. Morales,Roberto Bravo-Sagua,Andrew F. G. Quest,Mario Chiong,Sergio Lavandero,Sergio Lavandero +8 more
TL;DR: The evidence related to the role of sarco/endoplasmic reticulum–mitochondria communication in cardiac and vascular muscle physiology is summarized, with a focus on how perturbations contribute to the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cell death and survival through the endoplasmic reticulum-mitochondrial axis.
Roberto Bravo-Sagua,Andrea E. Rodriguez,Jovan Kuzmicic,Tomás Gutierrez,Camila López-Crisosto,Clara Quiroga,Jessica Díaz-Elizondo,Mario Chiong,Thomas G. Gillette,Beverly A. Rothermel,Sergio Lavandero,Sergio Lavandero +11 more
TL;DR: Emerging data on how communication between endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria can modulate organelle function and determine cellular fate are reviewed.
