Brief interventions for alcohol problems: a meta‐analytic review of controlled investigations in treatment‐seeking and non‐treatment‐seeking populations

TL;DR: This review summarizes additional positive evidence for brief interventions compared to control conditions typically delivered by health-care professionals to non-treatment-seeking samples and calculated the effect sizes for multiple drinking-related outcomes at multiple follow-up points.
Journal ArticleDOI

Outcome Variables and Their Assessment in Alcohol Treatment Studies: 1968‐1998

TL;DR: The number of outcome variables assessed in studies, on average, did not increase significantly over time, but another categorical variable, global ratings of drinking improvement, did increase, and the number of different types of outcomes variables did increase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alcoholism treatment outcome studies, 1970-1998. An expanded look at the nature of the research.

TL;DR: This paper reviewed 701 alcohol treatment outcome studies reported between 1970 and 1998 and found that the majority of both investigators and participants were male, and participant characteristics were generally inconsistently surveyed and reported, and the types of outcome measures assessed varied more widely and were more likely to be continuous and quantifiable.
