VEGF inhibition and renal thrombotic microangiopathy.
Vera Eremina,J. Ashley Jefferson,Jolanta Kowalewska,Howard S. Hochster,Mark Haas,Joseph Weisstuch,Catherine A. Richardson,Jeffrey B. Kopp,M. Golam Kabir,Peter H. Backx,Hans-Peter Gerber,Napoleone Ferrara,Laura Barisoni,Charles E. Alpers,Susan E. Quaggin +14 more
TL;DR: To show that local reduction of VEGF within the kidney is sufficient to trigger the pathogenesis of thrombotic microangiopathy, this work used conditional gene targeting to delete V EGF from renal podocytes in adult mice and resulted in a profound thromBotic glomerular injury.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beneficial effects of systemic immunoglobulin in experimental membranous nephropathy
Masaomi Nangaku,Jeff Pippin,Jeff Pippin,Catherine A. Richardson,Catherine A. Richardson,M Schulze,M Schulze,Bessie A. Young,Bessie A. Young,Charles E. Alpers,Charles E. Alpers,Katherine L. Gordon,Katherine L. Gordon,Richard J. Johnson,Richard J. Johnson,William G. Couser,William G. Couser +16 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that systemic administration of immunoglobulin can substantially reduce ongoing complement activation in the glomerulus in PHN rats and that this effect is associated with a significant reduction in glomerular injury.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expanding the pathologic spectrum of light chain deposition disease: a rare variant with clinical follow-up of 7 years
TL;DR: An unusual histologic manifestation of light chain deposition disease in a 69-year-old female patient, who presented with nephrotic syndrome and an increased serum creatinine, which to the authors' knowledge has not been previously described and further expands the wide clinicopathologic spectrum within the diagnostic entity of lightchain deposition disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
IL-1 beta increases laminin B2 chain mRNA levels and activates NF-kappa B in rat glomerular epithelial cells.
TL;DR: An increase in laminin B2 chain mRNA levels in rat glomerular epithelial cells treated with IL-1 beta was shown, suggesting that NF-kappa B might be involved inIL-1-induced laminIn B2Chain gene expression.
IL-1β increases laminin B2 chain mRNA levels and activates NF-κB in rat glomerular epithelial cells
TL;DR: Results demonstrate that treatment of GEC with IL-1β activates an NF-κB complex, which is recognized by one of the κB-like motifs from the laminin B2 chain promoter.
