A lubricating oil composition formulated with a viscosity index (VI) improver composition including a combination of an ethylene α-olefin copolymer having no greater than 66 mass % of units derived from ethylene, and a linear diblock copolymer including at least one block derived primarily from a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon monomer, and at least one block derived primarily from diene monomer.

Lubricating oil compositions.

Compositions comprising two or more re-esterified ethylene-unsaturated ester copolymers, for example ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, improve the low temperature properties of fuel oils.

Oil additives and compositions

Distillate fuel is treated with additives whose structure match the crystal planes of the wax which crystallizes from the fuel to produce crystals below 4000 nanometres in size, suitable additive include novel sulpho-carboxylic materials particularly their esters and amine derivatives such as the amine salts and/or amides of ortho-sulpho benzoic acid.

Chemical compositions and use as fuel additives

The low temperature properties of a distillate petroleum fuel oil boiling in the range 120° C. to 500° C., are improved particularly the lowering of the cloud point by the addition of a polymer or copolymer of a n-alkyl vinyl or fumarate ester having at least 25 wt. % of n-alkyl groups of average number of carbon atoms from 14 to 18 with no more than 10 wt. % containing less than 14 carbon atoms and no more than 10 wt. % containing more than 14 carbon atoms.

Middle distillate compositions with improved low temperature properties

The low temperature properties of a distillate petroleum fuel oil boiling in the range 120° C. to 500° C., and whose 20% and 90% distillation points differ by less than 100° C., and/or whose Final Boiling Point is in the range 340° C. to 370° C. are improved by the addition of a polymer or copolymer having at least 25 wt. % of n-alkyl groups of average number of carbon atoms from 12 to 14 with no more than 10 wt. % containing more than 14 carbon atoms.

Middle distillate compositions with improved cold flow properties

The response of middle distillates to flow improvers can be substantially improved by utilizing a dual-functioning flow improver composition which is a combination of two different wax modifying compounds. One of these functions as a wax growth arrester. The other functions as nucleating agent. Specifically, for example, it has been demonstrated that a copolymer of ethylene with vinyl acetate in combination with another copolymer of ethylene with vinyl acetate where either the vinyl acetate monomer is present in different proportions and/or the molecular weights are different is a flow improver combination which imparts significant improvements in the filterability of middle distillate fuels.
