A hand grip control apparatus for a firearm that controls en electronic module that is mounted on the firearm. The electronic module can be a laser sight, a flashlight, or other modules, either connected to directly to the weapon or closely associated with it. For a 9 mm handgun, the laser module chassis mounts on the front face of the muzzle. For a M-16, the chassis mounts on the weapon handle. The weapons factory installed hand grips are replaced by novel hand grips that contain the electronic controls, water proof activation switches, and power source. The hand grips are wired to the chassis via a flexible internal circuit tape in the case of the 9 mm and waterproof quick disconnect cable for the M-16. The apparatus is designed to be used with commercially available batteries providing about 12 hours of operating time.

An assembly for use on weapons includes an illuminated gun sight system to permit the user to aim and shoot the weapon in varying ambient light conditions and including a first light emitting element on a front sight and a second pair of light emitting elements on a rear sight of the firearm, a light generating source to provide light to the first light emitting element and the second pair of light emitting elements; the first and second light emitting elements including a light modifying element to produce a distinct luminous reference shape of uniform light intensity throughout a visible light radiating area. A servo system sensor is responsive to ambient light conditions for adjusting the intensity of light radiating from the light emitting elements so that the intensity of light radiating from the light emitting elements increases and decreases in direct relation to changes in ambient light conditions. A low ammunition warning system includes a detector and a circuit for tracking depletion of ammunition contained in the weapon. Visible and tactile signals, responsive to the circuit, warn the user when a known pre-set low ammunition count has been reached.

A fiber optic pin sight includes a fiber optic pin holder which grips the pin to secure the pin in the sight. The pin holder includes a threaded shaft having a bore through which the pin extends and a nut which is threaded about the shaft. The shaft is sloped outwardly at its back end and includes a slot which extends forwardly from the back end to define a pair of spaced apart flexible legs. When the nut is threaded over the expanded back end of the shaft, the legs are urged together to grip the pin.

A lighted sight pin for archery bows which provides a small point of light for aiming the bow in dim light or at night. The sight pin is structurally protected against damage by brush, tree limbs, etc. and is completely solid state for dependability and long life. A fiber-optic rod transmits light from a light-emitting diode (LED) activated by a voltage source to the sighting end. The light-transmitting rod is surrounded by a rigid shaft or tube. The LED is spaced from the sight end of the rod, allowing the sight end to be extremely small for accurate aiming yet easily visible and fully protected from damage by the rigid shaft or tube and other structure.

The subject invention pertains to a method of sighting and a sighting apparatus which can operate during the day and/or night. The subject device can be used on projectile type weapons such as guns and archery products. The subject method and device can be utilized with these various weapons such that a user can use the weapon during the day and/or night and sight under essentially all lighting conditions.

Battery powered illuminated gun sights for facilitating accurate aiming of a gun in the dark. The sight illumination is furnished by miniature shock-resistant light emitters, such as light emitting diodes, which are energized from batteries contained in the gun by operation of a switch on the gun. The sights are preferably illuminated with red light to avoid degrading of the user''s night vision and in such a way that the illuminated portions of the sights are not visible from the front and sides of the gun and hence do not reveal the user''s location. The front and rear sights may be distinguished by illumination of different intensity or color to facilitate proper alignment of the sights when aiming.
