A method of integrally bonding self-lubricating material to an external surface of a substratum to form a self-lubricating surface thereon comprising the steps of: A. forming the substratum to provide an external surface thereon of desired configuration; B. applying a layer of self-lubricating material onto the surface; C. applying a plurality of filaments on the layer of self-lubricating material to form an overlayment thereon to exert a bonding pressure sufficient to cause the layer of self-lubricating material to conform and bond to the configured external surface; D. applying a hardenable liquid resin prior to, simultaneously with, or subsequent to the application of the self-lubricating material and filaments to coat the material and filaments and fill any interstices that exist; E. hardening the resin; and F. removing all or part of the overlayment after the resin has hardened to expose the layer of self-lubricating material or portions thereof on the external surface.

Method of bonding self-lubricating fibers to an external surface of a substratum

A self-lubricating track-roller bearing and the method of manufacturing the same that includes such a bearing with an inner race ring having a liner of self-lubricating material bonded to the outer surface of the inner race ring which is manufactured by the use of such a liner having self-lubricating material on one side and adhesive on the other side, with the latter side applied to such inner ring outer surface, positioning such inner ring with the liner thereon and a transparent heat shrinkable tubing assembly fixture together in a concentric relation so that upon the application of heat to said fixture it shrinks into a circumferential contact with the said liner to exert a force as the shrinking occurs to press said liner and said adhesive thereon against said outer surface to bond the latter thereto and thereby compress the thickness of said self-lubricating material, with said heat-shrunken tubing fixture maintaining said liner in position during additional heating to cure said adhesive, then removing said tubing fixture from said inner ring by cutting the same in an axial direction and then disposing of the cut fixture, and thereafter assembling said inner race ring with said liner thereon within an outer race ring to provide a self-lubricating track-roller bearing for an installation wherein said outer ring is rotatable and said inner ring is stationary relative to said outer ring.

A method of making bearing including a substratum having a configured external surface to which a self-lubricating material is integrally bonded to provide a self-lubricating bearing surface, the method including; applying a layer of self-lubricating resin penetrable bearing material onto the configured external surface; providing a hardenable liquid resin to coat and penetrate the bearing material; applying an overlayment of filaments onto the layer of bearing material to exert a bonding pressure on the layer of bearing material sufficient to cause the layer of bearing material to conform and bond to the configured external surface; hardening the resin; and removing at least part of the overlayment of filaments after the resin has hardened to expose at least selected portions of the layer of self-lubricating bearing material.

A biaxial braided sleeve braided together in a diamond braid style. The braided sleeve has an outer layer or set of thick, uncrimped strands extending in one helical direction and an inner layer or set of thick, uncrimped strands extending in the other helical direction. Much thinner containment strands hold the thick strands in position. A braided sleeve is thus provided which can have one material on the outside and a different material on the inside. For example, the inside material can be fluorocarbon polymer and the outside material can be fiberglass, providing a bearing liner. The two counter-rotating sets or layers of thick uncrimped strands provide enhanced mechanical properties.

What is disclosed herein deals with low to medium pressure, high temperature, all ceramic, air-to-air, indirect heat exchangers, novel ball joints, high load-bearing ceramic tube sheets, and tube seal extenders for ceramic tubes that are useful in such heat exchangers. Also disclosed are new and novel systems used in new and novel industrial processes such as chemical processing, sludge destruction and the production of particulates such as, for example, carbon black. Systems utilizing several heat exchangers are also disclosed.

A structural bearing element having a low friction surface is formed by winding on a bondable surface of the element a bondable low friction thread impregnated with a bonding resin, and the element and thread are then treated to cause the resin to bond the thread turns to each other and to the element. A representative application of the bearing is shown in an automotive type ball joint and an improved sealing means is shown on the joint.
