Abstract: The structure of 3-deazauracil [2-hydroxy-4-pyridone, C5H5NO2], a modified nucleic acid base, has been studied by high resolution neutron powder diffraction. The accuracy of hydrogen atom parameters has been improved over an earlier single crystal X-ray experiment and the biologically important H4 atom has been located, having been unobserved in the X-ray work.
